Power apps not allowing to create dev account

Hello,

I am having an issue accessing Power Apps via the following page:  "Build apps with the free Power Apps Developer Plan".

I enter my consulting business email-id in the "Let's get started" sub-page.

Upon checking off the 'agreement' check-box, I receive the following message:

"Please enter a work account for the best trial experience.". It requires a '"school or work email". I am providing my work email.

I have an Entra-ID instance for my business setup and active in Azure.

I believe the two requirements are for a "school or work email" and Entra-ID for the business. I have met both requirements. So ... why am I being prevented from accessing the Power Apps Developer Plan?

I want to use the free Developer Plan for self-learning and preparing for the Power Apps certification exams

Thank you in advance for your help.

Regards.

Power apps not allowing to create dev account
Thank you Vasanth. I shall follow the steps you have listed, and  see if they help resolve the issue. I shall let you know how it goes.

Thank you Paul. I wasn't aware that a O365 or Dynamics subscription was required for the the Power Apps Developer Plan. In that case, Microsoft needs to be clear upon the prerequisites - Work Email-id, Active Azure AD (Entra ID) for the business ... AND a O365/Dynamics subscription.

I have MS Office Professional installed on my machine, and no need for Dynamics. In that case, Power Apps is unavailable to learn and propose to potential clients for people in my position

    Cheers!

It sounds like you're encountering a problem with the Power Apps Developer Plan registration process, even though you're using a work email and have an active Entra ID instance. Here are some steps and troubleshooting tips that might help resolve the issue:

    1. Double-check the Email Domain

    • The Power Apps Developer Plan typically expects a work email associated with a verified domain in Azure Active Directory (AAD). Ensure that your business's domain is properly verified and added to your Azure AD instance.
      • If your domain isn’t correctly configured or verified in Azure AD, Power Apps might not recognize your email as a valid "school or work email."

    2. Ensure the Azure AD Tenant is Set Up Correctly

    • Make sure your Azure AD tenant is set up to allow users to access external services like Power Apps. If your Azure AD tenant is restricted (due to tenant settings, governance policies, etc.), it may be preventing access to Power Apps services.

    3. Check Your Azure AD User License

    • Even though your business has an Azure AD instance, ensure that the user account you're using has the appropriate licenses for accessing Microsoft 365 services. A missing or incorrectly assigned license could also cause access issues.
      • The account you're using should have at least Power Apps access enabled in your Azure AD portal.

    4. Check Organization's External Access Policies

    • Your organization's Azure AD might be blocking access to certain external applications or restricting registration to users within your organization. This could be the reason you're seeing the error message about needing a "work account."
      • Contact your admin and ask if there are any policies in place that prevent users from accessing the Power Apps Developer Plan or other services like Power Apps.

    5. Try Using an Incognito/Private Browser Window

    • Sometimes, cached information or session data can cause issues when logging in. Try using an incognito or private browser window to bypass any cached login information and see if that helps.

    6. Try with a Personal Work Account

    • If you're using a business email tied to a custom domain (e.g., @yourcompany.com), you might want to try using a personal Microsoft 365 or work account instead, as sometimes the Developer Plan registration process might require a Microsoft or work account associated with a more general domain (e.g., @outlook.com or @microsoft.com).

    7. Reach Out to Microsoft Support

    • If you've checked everything and are still unable to access the Power Apps Developer Plan, you may need to reach out to Microsoft Support. They can verify if there are any issues with your tenant, account, or other configurations that are preventing you from proceeding with registration.

    Summary of Steps:

    • Verify that your email domain is correctly added to Azure AD.
    • Ensure the correct licensing for the user account.
    • Check if any organizational access policies are preventing external service access.
    • Try clearing browser cache or using an incognito window.
    • Consider reaching out to Microsoft support if the issue persists.

These steps should help you troubleshoot why you're being prevented from accessing the Power Apps Developer Plan.

When you say you are using a work email is this a Microsoft 365 or Dynamics tenant email? That is what the Microsoft terminology means by Work or School account. It doesn't just mean an email that is associated with your company but on a different email system. It has to be associated with a Microsoft 365 or Dynamics tenant.
