Connecting Milestones with Planner

Hey Guys,

Is there a way that we can integrate Milestones with MS Planner. For example, if you create a work item in Milestones, can we create a task in Planner as well?

I would greatly appreciate it if you could guide me if you have any guidance.

Cheers

    Hi @guvenbickici ,

Since the Milestone App is already an OOTB solution, it is quite complicated to make modifications in the App. But I think you could use Power Automate instead of modifying the App.

1\ Add another button on the screen

2\ create a flow with the top menu:

3\ Cut and paste the flow function from the newly added button to the "Create" button.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi @v-jefferni

Thanks a bunch for your time and the information provided.

I have tried to follow up on what you have mentioned above but for some reason when I click the created button nothing happens.

    1. I have created the flow-thru Powerautomate

    2. I have added the button onto page and associated flow with that button.

I would greatly appreciate it if you could check in case I am doing something odd please 🙂

    Hi @guvenbickici ,

You will need to cut the Flow.run function from the custom added button and paste into the system "Create" button's OnSelect property. That button is grayed out and disabled in your screenshot.

After cutting and pasting the flow, the button you additionally added will be useless so you will need to remove it from your App.

    Hope this helps.

Hi @v-jefferni and @guvenbickici, thank you for your posts and help above. After a day of getting most done, still unable to figure out what seemed like basic final steps yet time to post a comment to ask for further help... I can't figure out where and how to "cut the Flow.run function" - as I'm new and learning hoping you might be able to provide further screenshot or code sample? Thank you!

On a roll... figured the above out - now just trying to figure out what syntax goes after .Run(   ...best guess is the input from Title, Assign To and Target ("Due") Date

Just following up to say I didn't figure it out but @DamoBird365 posted a great solution here which doesn't require power automate / flow:

Does anyone have a screen shot step by step guide, i've tried for 2 days and cannot find where the flow run is to copy&paste, i can get as far as adding the button and creating the flow, (though my power automate is down the left panel) once created theres no confirmation of adding this to the button and no formula to insert into the existing create button.

Also tried Damo version getting error messages after adding groupID and planID

    Planner.CreateTaskV4 failed: { "error": { "code": "", "message": "Schema validation has failed. Validation for field 'Assignments', on entity 'Task' has failed: The assignee id is invalid.", "innerError": { "date": "2022-12-16T13:31:45", "request-id": "****-****-*******", "client-request-id": "******-***-****-*******" } } }

I'm wondering the same thing. I'm just not tech savvy enough to fill in the blanks on his tutorial.

I've created a YouTube tutorial that demonstrates how to do this including how to have the task created in an MS Planner Board of your choice. Hope you find this helpful: https://youtu.be/0PqaJPRPTFI
