Save Email Attachments Daily to a Local Folder (No SharePoint) + Data Gateway Help

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to set up a Power Automate flow that automatically saves email attachments every day to a specific local folder on my computer or a network drive.

Constraints / Questions:

  • I do not want to use SharePoint or OneDrive as the destination.

  • The attachments should be saved to a specific folder path (for example, a local drive or shared network folder).

  • The flow should run automatically every day or when an email arrives.

I’ve seen references to using an On-premises Data Gateway, but I’m a bit confused about:

  1. Whether it’s required for saving files to a local or network folder

  2. How permissions and security work (service account vs personal account, folder access, etc.)

  3. Any limitations or best practices when using the gateway with Power Automate

If anyone has implemented something similar or can explain the data/permission gateway setup in simple terms, I’d really appreciate the guidance.

Thanks in advance!

You can save email attachments to a local or network folder using Power Automate, but you need the On-Premises Data Gateway. The gateway acts as a bridge between your cloud flow and your local/network drives.

    - The gateway must run on a machine that can access the folder.
    - Use a service account with read/write permissions to the folder - this account is what actually saves the files.
    - In your flow, use “When a new email arrives” or a daily schedule, then the File System -> Create file action pointing to your folder.
    - Make sure the gateway is online, and test with smaller files first. Large attachments can slow things down.
