Issue with 'create file' on the file system

I've created a simple flow that copies a file from Sharepoint to File System.

It works fine when I run it manually and when triggered automatically.

But only if I'm logged-in to the company network.

If I'm not logged-in in the office or not logged-in via VPN when OOO the 'create file' step on the File system fails.

I've noticed that even if the 'create file' fails, at the same time if I connect to the company network and re-run the flow it succeeds.

Please advise.

Thanks.

Are you using an on-premises gateway to do the file create? And if you are is the gateway installed on your workstation/laptop.  That would result in the kind of behavior you are describing.  If so, the solution is to install the gateway on a machine that is inside your network and has direct access to the location where you want to create the file.

    Thank's Pstork1!

Indeed the gateway was installed locally and it probably the root cause of the issue.

Thank you for the prompt reply! 🙂

    p.s

I'll also found out that the Gateway cannot be installed on a server but rather only a 'regular' machine - "Gateways aren't supported on Server Core installations."

And only one gateway per machine - "You can install up to two gateways on a single computer: one running in personal mode and the other running in standard mode." (personal mode is only for PowerBI).

It seems odd that you need to keep a desktop alive only for a gateway and cannot use one of the already existing servers...

If I got it wrong, you are welcome to correct me.

    Thanks again.

The gateway can be installed on a regular server, but not on a server core.  You need to have a UI to configure the gateway.  But you are correct that you can only install one regular gateway on a server/workstation.  But that one gateway can be used for multiple apps and applications.  You really don't need multiple gateways other than to segment administrative security (who can manage the gateway).  For that you really should use separate installations.

    Hi,

I' am new to PBI and working on pbi reports and power automate,

I too facing the same issue as described above req: save a paginated report with csv extension to a Shared drive

I did Installed on premise gateway on client VDI and created a file connection.

everything is working fine when I turn on VDI, when it turned off Create file flow is failing.

I don't think we have that much of feasibility to install it on server, is it possible to create a file without using on premise gateway?

please help I got stuck on this issue.

    Thanks!

Its not possible to create a file on an on-premises server using Power Automate without an On-premises gateway.
