Updating an item error

I have built a flow to either create or update an item and the create item works but the update item is throwing this error message:

The 'inputs.parameters' of workflow operation 'Update_item' of type 'OpenApiConnection' is not valid. Error details: Input parameter 'id' is required to be of type 'Integer/int64'. The runtime value '"JFF29454748-12009/02/2024"' to be converted doesn't have the expected format 'Integer/int64'.

The Unique ID is not an integer. Is there a way to change the expected data type so that it accepts the set unique ID?

    Hi @JWhit_7 ,

I will provide the answer below assuming here that you are working with a SharePoint List as data source. If this is not the case, let me know and we can investigate it deeper 🙂

Although you may have an "ID" column in your List, it not necessarily matches with the "unique ID" used by the system to identify the record. For example, even in Lists that you don't have an ID column, Power Automate will still display an "ID" property when working with dynamic content:

In general, the "user friendly ID" (in your case, "JFF29454748-12009/02/2024") is set in a different column from the system "ID", which will also be an integer. So you can solve your error in the "Update item" by just assigning the "ID" dynamic content (which refers to system ID) related to the List record.

If your flow design doesn't have the system ID data but only the user friendly one ("JFF29454748-12009/02/2024"), you can use a "Get items" action and filter the records by user friendly ID. After that, you will be able to access the record's system ID.

Let me know if it works for you or if you need any additional help!

Hi. Thank you for getting back to me. I have tried using the 'ID' dynamic content and it is still failing on 4 of the items and not reconciling records. Any ideas?

    Hi @JWhit_7 ,

    Let's investigate 🙂

Please, add a "Compose" action inside your "Apply to each 2", before the "Update item". Inside the compose, add a reference to the dynamic content of the currently looped item:

    rzaneti_1-1707867415618.png

After that, please run the flow again and share the raw outputs of one or some of the "Compose" for the failed loop iterations (if you don't know how to access the raw outputs, please refer to this post: http://digitalmill.net/2023/06/29/how-to-access-the-raw-outputs-in-power-automate/).

The goal of this "Compose" addition is just to visualize how does the List records looks like in these 4 cases and identify potential issues. After we solve the problem, you can delete this step from the flow.
