AUTOMATE EXPORT TO EXCEL FROM POWER BI

Hi Team,

Could you please tell me, is there any way, we can schedule a flow automatically from POWER BI to export data to excel.

Many forums and Videos are explaining to add "POWER BI Buttons" to trigger this task.

But the real need is to automate the "export to excel" from Power Bi report.

I'm happy to add button, but let me know how to trigger that BUTTON on scheduled basis automatically.

Any suggestion are welcomed.

Thank you

Vijay.

    Hi @vijay273,

Do you want to export Power BI data to excel in Power Automate?

Could you please share a bit more about your scenario?

Actually, Power Automate only supports export the file as PDF, PPTX or PNG format, not support CSV or XLSX file:

For more detailed information, you could refer to this document:

    Hi  v-qiaqi-msft,

You are right, POWER AUTOMATE can export only in above formats and not in excel.

MY requirement is to export it to .xlsx (or) .csv format, on a scheduled basis.

Means, I need to create a "SCHEDULED FLOW" that runs on daily basis to export PBI data in excel format.

Let me know the solution for this.

    Hi @vijay273,

    Here is a detailed video:

This video also requires clicking a button. Do you have a link to a video that doesn't require clicking a button? Would like to have a scheduled flow that exports the data daily.

You can schedule a job to export certain tables, data from PB to csv format. I understand there will problems if you export the data directly into xlsx.

If the problems have to do with larger datasets & looping, you can try using this template to convert the entire CSV to Excel without slow looping

@Jeanxyz Here's a little more background. I have a Power BI file that pulls in data from different sources which I can't connect to directly (SAP, JDE) etc. I am manually exporting this data daily in an excel table and putting into SharePoint library. I have a flow that updates all of the items, or creates a new item if it doesn't already exist. The export automatically creates the data in a "Table 1". Exporting to csv doesn't automatically create the data in a Table format.  So this process doesn't work for me. I tried creating an excel table instead of csv table as the video describes but something isn't working correctly.

If you want to export to xlsx, you have to use run a query against powerbi dataset like I have described in my post:

Hello, i'm using "Update and Excel table from Power BI" template and it's working well in updating an excel sheet placed on SharePoint.

i created a button, on click the dataset is generated in to an excel under a specific table/columns, but the excel does not open. Therefore, i had to create another button to open it.

What can i add to the flow to allow opening this excel upon generation without having the need to have another button with just an "Open Link". it's not practical.

    Thank you,

    Alex

"Run query against powerbi dataset" does not work for SSAS cube source.
