@hrics12 If you need to update the exact same file, is there a reason you aren't editing the SP file directly? You can open a SP file in the Desktop App through the Excel Web app by clicking The Editing (you should see this if you have editing permissions) button in the top right corner then select Open in Desktop App.
Alternatively, you can click on the three dots of the file in SharePoint, the select Open and then Open in app.
