What should the Default setting be for DataCard Values on a new form.

Hi.

I'm looking to optimise an form that is just used to enter new records.

By default when I add a form to a screen it's in edit mode and the default of each DataCardValue field is Parent.Default. However, I'll set the form default mode to New and the form will never show current records and will just be used to enter new records.

What should the Default value of each DataCardValue be?

Hi @JohnJDB ,

When you use NewForm() function it will open a clean form for you to enter new records and save it.
When you use EditForm() function, it will open Form in edit mode where you specify which existing record you want to modify when you define the record in 'items' property on the Form.

Default is basically giving the ability to show pre-defined items on the Form.
When you use NewForm then there's no value in Parent.Default while if displaying existing record, the value that is stored in the DataCardValues or fields is defined with Parent.Default.

Thanks for your message.

I apologise, but in between posting and your response, I found this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6PYhQH4WVvA

It explains that the Parent.Default is the Default value in the Datasource.

It does actually come up when i run I use NewForm(). Here for example I opened the form using NewForm and it came up. It doesnt when the form is in edit view.

Therefore as dont need default values in the form, I believe I can remove the Default formula from the datafields and save on some IO.

Sorry I do not know how to delete the question, but anyway, this might help someone.
