Switching from Append Text to Normal Multi Line Text

Hi all,

I have been using a versioned Sharepoint List that has a comments column with Append Text option turned on. It's causing me more issues than it's worth retrieving text history etc. I'm looking to switch the append text option off, but is there any way with a Flow I can retrieve the comments history and store it in a new normal multi line text column?

Thanks!

You would need to use a SharePoint HTTP action to retrieve all past versions of each item.  Create a variable and keep appending the text to the variable.  Then, save the combined value in the text column.  I suggest adding a new multiline text column to save the combined data.

Here is a link to a blog post that show how to retrieve previous versions of a list item.

    Hi Scott,

Thanks for getting back to me. I've not used the Send HTTP feature before, and a lot of the articles on it go over my head! I've found this article that can retrieve all the versions here using a single REST call https://beaucameron.com/2020/12/22/retrieve-values-of-a-multi-line-text-field-with-append-changes-in-a-single-rest-call/

I'm just unsure how I can implement it in my flow which is pictured here:

I assume down the YES path of the condition, I'll need to use the Send HTTP action to retrieve the comments, then append the text variable, which will be used to update the new multi line column that has append turned off. Just not actually sure how to implement the action to achieve this?

    Thanks again.
