CDS licencing

Hi all,

I plan to use PowerApps (canvas model) without the use of CDS - connecting to a SP list using the Office 365 E3 licences available to the enterprise users.

I have been looking around for best ways to manage/deploy PowerApps between site collections (non-prod to prod environments) without the manual import/export process which is cumbersome and definitely not an enterprise grade process.

I came across solutions https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powerapps/developer/common-data-service/introduction-solutions, which looks promising however the solutions are stored in CDS - this makes me think there will be a licencing requirement to go down this path?

Do we need to licence/buy capacity for CDS separately? If yes, what does that look like?

I have the same question (0)

To use CDS you need to have a Power Apps license https://powerapps.microsoft.com/en-us/pricing/

Solutions in CDS are not going to solve your problem of having to update the SharePoint lists that the apps are pointing to in each environment. If you are looking for enterprise level deployment processes and have them automated then you should look at having your apps built on CDS rather than SharePoint lists. This means that each app user needs a Power Apps license.

You can automate your Power App deployments via Solutions and Azure DevOps https://powerapps.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/automate-your-application-lifecycle-management-alm-with-powerapps-build-tools-preview/

Yes, you are right. Solution is based on CDS, so you have to upgrade your license to PowerApps standalone plan.
