Hi Community!

I want to load Custom Fields from a Task in Microsoft Planner into Power BI. I cannot find them in the default table.

Do you know in which Dataverse Table they are stored?

Thanks for you help.

Cheers,

Martin

    Greetings MA-27030803-0

Assuming that you have the Premium Planner, which stores data from the planner in dataverse, that should generate you a great variety of tables, besides Project Task. While I don’t exactly know in which table table the custom fields are stored, you should be able to find it in any of the “Project” tables

Edit: To be honest, and according to some colleagues the planner can be quite a headache to use properly, here you have a link to a more in depth explannation on how to work with the planner should you not find the custom field in the tables, or need access to it in any other ways:

Edit2: To add something interesting, you can use this endpoint, changing ORGNAME and PROJECTID to suit your needs https://project.microsoft.com/pss/api/v1.0/projects(msxrm_ORGNAME.crm.dynamics.com_PROJECTID)/tasks/fields and retrieve a JSON containing all the fields, including the custom fields. I'm pretty sure there's a way to call for a JSON of all the tasks as an array with all the data, which is an extension of the URL I gave you before, but I don't remember how to do it.

    Thanks, AmínAA,

    1) I am afraid it is in none of these tables.

    2) Thanks for the link to the article.

    3) What would be the PROJECTID in this link?

    Greetings @MA-27030803-0!

I'm sorry for my late reply, didn't get notified of the reply, and lost the post until now hahaha!

Regarding your reply... I'm sorry if none of the tables held the custom fields. That's weird, I was super sure those ought to be contained somewhere there... Now, about the article, I hope it did help, either there aren't many people using the planner connector, or I suck finding information regarding it, because for my life I couldn't find more information about it when I was trying to help... Finally, the PROJECTID, would be if I'm not mistaken the GUID of the planner's project you want to get the fields of...

Here's a reddit post that might be helpful and which contains the other URL I've mentioned, including the one I gave you, although with different placeholder names!

Do let me know if in the end you've managed to solve your problem, and if my answer was in any way helpful to do so!

    Does Planner actually use Dataverse?

The documentation indicates that it uses SharePoint and Microsoft 365 Groups. Frequently asked questions for admins about Microsoft Planner - Microsoft Planner | Microsoft Learn

This seems more likely as it would be using calendar, tasks, etc.
The more likely way to retrieve data would be to use Microsoft Graph.

At this time there is currently no automated, API-based way to access Project for the web / Planner Premium custom fields.  I know why have a custom field if you can't report on it. Microsoft has taken a huge step backward.  Standard fields are available in Dataverse and OData, but custom fields are not.
    • Manual export is the only option for custom field data at this time.
    • Planner Premium and Project for the web having introduced new custom field capabilities they are not yet integrated with the Dataverse data model.
    • These custom fields are stored in a separate backend managed by Microsoft and are only visible in the Planner/Project web UI and Microsoft Graph API (in preview or limited endpoints).
    • As of now, Microsoft has not exposed these fields to Dataverse, so they are not available for direct reporting or automation via Dataverse connectors.
