Help with SubmitForm Issues in PowerApps After Recent Updates (specified column read-only)

Hello PowerApps Community,

I'm encountering a problem with my PowerApps app that started after the latest PowerApps updates. I'm hoping for some insights or assistance from this knowledgeable community.

Issue Description: After updating PowerApps, the SubmitForm function in my app is no longer working as expected. I keep receiving an error message stating, "The specified column is read only and cannot be modified". This is puzzling because the app worked perfectly before the update.

Specific Details:

  • I use a form in my app to input or update data in a SharePoint list.
  • This issue is occurring across multiple fields, not just one.
  • An example is a dropdown field bound to a Choice column in SharePoint.
  • The SubmitForm function is tied to a button in the app.
  • I have checked permissions and form configurations with no apparent issues found.
  • Interestingly, I could revert to the functional Authoring version 23105 until a week ago, which is no longer an option as only newer versions are available now.
  • I have tried different versions, including 23111, 23112, 23113, 23114, and also 23121, but none of them work.
  • Surprisingly, the patch notes don't mention anything related to this issue.
  • I’ve verified access rights, and it wouldn't make sense for permissions to be the issue since the older authoring version works flawlessly.
  • If I can’t find a solution, I might have to rebuild the forms in the new environment, but I’m concerned about how long they will work then.
  • I don’t exclude the possibility of errors on my part, as I’m relatively new to PowerApps.
  • I've seen other threads addressing this error, but most suggest switching the authoring version, which doesn't solve the problem but merely postpones it.
  • I'd be happy for more in-depth troubleshooting.

Questions:

  1. Has anyone else experienced similar issues after the recent PowerApps updates?
  2. Are there known bugs or changes in the latest updates that could explain this behavior?
  3. Does anyone have suggestions on how to fix this or where to start?

I’d really appreciate any help or advice. Thank you in advance!

Best regards,
Dominik ✌️

Edit:

Repost of my reply in another thread with the same issue:
    https://powerusers.microsoft.com/t5/Building-Power-Apps/Network-error-when-using-SubmitForm-The-specified-column-User/m-p/2502475#M622120

Good news, everyone! It appears there has been a development. Today, I tested the version 3.23121.20, and to my surprise, it works. I've tried it across several freshly cleared browser instances, and the issue seems to be resolved. This is a significant relief and might indicate that Microsoft has addressed the bug, or this particular version has rectified the problem. I hope this information is helpful for those who have been experiencing similar issues.

    Hi yosefzav,

In our case, the app doesn't even reload properly. Restarting the browser is necessary. It also seems like the OnFailure event is getting stuck in a loop. CPU usage spikes dramatically, and the notification I have set up in that event bombards us non-stop. It looks like waiting is our only option at this moment. I've noticed many new threads with the same problem.

Having this issue as well, even on version 2.23114.19 it looks like for a few users, but not for others. These seem to be the only selected versions for myself at the moment. Nothing really major changed since then, starting noticed these errors from the users the last 2 days. A refresh to the webpage works if they try to submit the form again, but clearly that is not a real solution.

    Hi JoshMorelCP,

the last working version for me is 3.23105.18, which is also the one in the current published app. However, now when I start the editor, I am forced to use a newer version. I also no longer have the option to select the working version under the settings.

    Hi fuzzle_kettle,

There are no errors on your part this is a bug.

I was experiencing this issue with 3.23111.17. Then a roll-back worked with 3.23105.18.

But 2.23114.19 is fine. Is that what you're using??

It seems that many of us are currently facing the same issue. 😔
