Page ID within URL changing Causing Selector Location Failure

Hello,

I have a button on a page which is taking me to a new page each time with a unique ID within the URL.

I want to be able to click on 'Edit' on the snip below, but I believe this unique ID changing each time (8737 in the snip below) is causing Power Automate to not be able to locate the selector for the 'Edit' Button as it using a previous URL ID.

Does anyone have any solutions?

No, that should not be the case, unless your page is opened in a new tab or a new window (in which case you would need to attach to it).

It is likely that the element selector has some sort of a value that also changes in each instance. I suggest you look into it and modify the selector.

See here for more refernces on how to modify selectors: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-automate/desktop-flows/build-custom-selectors

Hi Agnius, it is opening in a new tab so I think that is what is causing the problem.

What do you mean attach it in this instance?

Use a Launch new Chrome (or whichever browser you are using) action and inside its properties, instead of launching a new instance, make it attach to an already running instance. Then use a page title or URL as the way to identify the page to attach to.

This will create a new Browser instance variable that you should then use in following browser automation actions to interract with this instance.

    Hey Agnius,

Finally getting a round to giving this a go but can't see to work it out.

First question I have is should I be launching the new Chrome action before I want to click on the new button action which will take me to the new page?

Second question is do I need put in the URL (not sure where to find the title), of the page that the button will take me to? If so, how will this work if it is constaly changing?

This is the URL of the new page but again, it will change when a new student is entered.

Would love some further help is possible 🙂

You should use the Launch new Chrome action after the new tab is opened. You need the tab to be open to be able to attach to it. Again, you will be using Launch new Chrome to attach to the tab, and not to open it. Pressing the button opens it.

You can also use the title of the page instead of the URL. Perhaps that's a more static thing to use? Alternatively, you can simply attach to the foreground window, if the new tab is automatically opened when you click the button. Try it and see if that works for you.
