People picker vs SharePoint list

I  am a beginner in powerapps . I am not able to understand a concept around people picker. I have a sp list as the data source. I am building a edit form. A requirement is to have a people picker field 'assigned to'

. How does this work. Should I create a people or group column in SP list,or a single text column. How should I create the people picker field in forms and how to map it to SP assigned to column.

    The easiest way would be to use a People/Groups column in SharePoint as the 'assigned to' column.  As long as you don't allow multiple selections the data card on the form should work without any additional manipulation.
