Some Activity sessions stay "In progress" for ever

Hello everyone

I’m experiencing an issue with my chatbot in Copilot Studio. The bot currently only has a couple of very simple topics. At the end of each topic which always finish correctly, I have the "End conversation" node configured correctly (although I’m not entirely sure about the difference between "End conversation" and "End all topics"). However, in the "Activity" tab of Copilot Studio, I notice that some sessions remain in the "In progress" state and do not transition to "Completed." The only sessions marked as "Completed" are those where users have directly searched the knowledge base and received a result.

Additionally, I’m unsure about when a session actually appears in this "Activity" section, as not all sessions I’ve tested are visible there. I have searched for documentation on this behavior but haven’t found any relevant information.

Has anyone encountered this issue or have any insights on:
  • The difference between "End conversation" and "End all topics" nodes?
  • Why sessions remain "In progress" even after ending the conversation?
  • What determines whether a session appears in the "Activity" tab?
  • Any guidance or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

The Inprogress means its waiting for user input. So if you open it and click on something, it will say its waiting. It can also mean that it didn't find anything to trigger (did you turn off Generative Answers?)

As for them not showing up, normally that is simply because it didn't think
    1) you actually triggered it for many reasons (and maybe you didn't)
    2) because you have an existing Conversation going and didn't properly reset and close/cancel it all so, it won't show up as a new one because it is stuck on one that you think is over and isn't.

      • One is about session, one is about parallel processing of things you got running

      • Explained above
    • What determines whether a session appears in the "Activity" tab?
      • It has to be part of a different conversation, and I know you are saying you are ending it
      • but if other things are still going you aren't ending it
      • overlapping topics etc, something that things it wants user input got triggered
    • Any guidance or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Without literally seeing your stuff, you are asking us to "explain" why your stuff specifically is doing that. That's not really possible with 100% accuracy but what I said covers most of the scenarios.

If this answers you, if you can Mark it as such I'd appreciate it and maybe a like

@Michael E. Gernaey Thanks for your response, but it's not exactly the solution to the problem.

I've attached a screenshot of a session that's "In progress," and I don't understand why, since it's a system topic. You can verify for yourself that it ends with the "End of session" node, but in this case, it remains "In progress." In this case, why is it still "In progress"? I've found several posts from people having the same problem, and people in the comments say the same thing is happening to them.

    Thank you in advance.
