Default Property not always there on DataCards

So I'm creating data cards to add data to a Sharepoint List. However one custom card I have created does not have the default or update properties. I don't think I'm doing anything differently so I'm confused about why the properties aren't there. Any help would be greatly appreciated! I've included screenshots showing a custom card that works fine and the one without the default data property. Thanks!

    Hi,

Had a look around the forums and it seems this is a longstanding issue (since 2017?!) - Tested it myself and am able to reproduce the issue - the workaround is to add a card in the normal way (+) and choose one of the existing fields, then unlock it and change it to whatever field you are intending to use.

Although, In your case (since I also use SharePoint as a back-end), I'm curious as to why you don't just add it using the normal field selector? You can unlock the card once added and it effectively becomes a custom card that you can do what you please to it,

Could you let me know if there's a specific reason for doing it this convoluted way of adding a custom card and setting it up from scratch - if the field already exists in SharePoint then just add it using the Field Selector - if the field doesnt show up as you've just added it to SharePoint then Save your app, close it compeltely, open it for editing again - this will then show you the new fields.

    Cheers,

    ManCat

Thanks a million, this helps a lot! Honestly, the only reason I opted for the custom card is because the previous cards were made that way a while ago so I just decided to use the same method. The problem cropped up much later when I had to add a new field to the SharePoint List today and create a card to add to that field from the app. So the explaination is just as convoluted as the method itself 🙂

Thanks again for the reply, much appreciated!

Is there another solution? I am using a collection as my data source. My only option is to add custom data cards.

Do I really have to change my data source to a share point list, add a field, and then change my data source back to my collection just to access a mundane property like Update or Default??

    Hi @iAm_ManCat

I am having the same issue with CDS in Project Oakdale.

The "Add field" is greyed out co I cannot add the card that way, So I clicked the 3 dots to the right of "Add Field" and clicked on "Add a Custom  Card".  The "Default" property was not there.

    Regards

    Hi @NigelP,

You may want to raise this as a support ticket to Microsoft via the Microsoft 365 admin portal, as Project Oakdale is a more recent development and they may want to investigate this themselves.

I'm not sure how you would do a similar workaround for CDS without adding a local list in the teams site to reference - the options for update/default should be there so this was more of a workaround for that particular situation.

    Kind Regards,

    Sancho
