Blurry Images in Word Report Generated from Power Apps

Hi everyone,

I'm currently developing a Power Apps application where users take photos and generate a Word document report through Power Automate and an Azure Function.

Is there any way to retain the original image resolution after taking a picture in Power Apps? The images look clear in the app and in SharePoint, but once the document is generated and downloaded, the images become blurry.

I've already disabled "Optimize images for upload" in the Power Apps mobile app, but the issue still occurs.

Has anyone encountered this before? Is there a way to preserve the original image quality during the document generation process, or is there a recommended approach for handling high-resolution images?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Select the card your image control is on and choose the Default property. Add a period after the name of your column to see the image resolution options.

    Changing the code

Be aware that using many high resolution images in your forms can affect performance.

How are you retreiving or sending the Image Content in your Flow and then how are you inserting this in your Word Merge into the Image Merge field ? Can you please post a screen shot of the relevant Flow items.

Also how are you taking the picture (with the Camera Control or uploading one already taken on the device) and what size are you trying to display it in the Word Document ?

Hi, I’m using an Azure Function App to generate and merge the content into the Word document. In Power Automate, I retrieve the Word template from SharePoint and then pass the template, audit data, and image information to the Function App.

The images are not inserted using the standard Word Online “Populate a Microsoft Word template” image merge field. Instead, the Function App processes the HTML/image content and inserts the images directly into the Word document during generation.

For the image source, users can either:

    • Take a photo using the Camera control in Power Apps, or

    • Upload an existing photo from their device.

    •

The images are then saved and retrieved through the flow before being included in the generated Word document. I’m currently displaying them inside fixed-size table cells in the report while maintaining their aspect ratio as much as possible.

Two possible issues - firstly, the Power Apps camera app is by its nature rather limited resolution (it is affectively a screenshot of the device display) and if displayed a lot larger, can certainly be blurry. For this reason, my users attach the files using the option given to take a photo (from an add picture control) and get the resolution required.

I am not familiar with the functionality of an Azure Function App, however I have a couple of apps using Encodian retreiving and rendering of images (I assume yours simply gathers the image content) from a SharePoint Document Library at full page size to a Word merge (this uses raw content rather than a Word Image control)) and they are certainly of good quality. Can you please confirm the process for the image retreival in Power Apps before sending to the Flow.

    Hi,

One Suggestion, try to save the image in either SharePoint or Dataverse and validate the Quality.
