AI model credit usage question

Hi,

I have got a few questions in regards to AI model

1) How many credit does 1 AI Builder add-on unit have?

I would like to process 200 PDF invoices a month, is 5,000 AI credits enough?

2) Is 1 AI credit = 1 API call?

AI model should really have good documentation regarding this.

    Hi @PaulMatha,

    Thanks for the question.

A great resource to know how many AI Builder add-ons you need for your workload is the AI Builder Calculator you can find here: AI Builder Calculator | Microsoft Power Automate

    Answering to your questions:

    • 1 AI Builder add-on = 1,000,000 AI Builder credits
    • For 200 PDF invoices (assuming each invoice has 1 page), this will consume 100,000 AI Builder credits
    • Depending on which AI Builder model you use, it will consume a different amount of AI Builder credits per API call.

    I hope this helps clarify!

    Hi @JoeF-MSFT ,

    Thank you for that.

How much would it cost to add additional AI credit?

The website says 500$, is there any other way?

    Hi @PaulMatha,

There are now a few ways to get AI Builder credits:

    • Through a Power Apps license you can accumulate up to 1,000,000 AI Builder credits this way:
      • For each purchased Power Apps per App license you get 250 AI Builder credits
      • For each purchases Power Apps per User license you get 500 AI Builder credits
    • Through a Power Automate license:
      • Each Power Automate per user license with attended RPA will give you 5,000 AI Builder credits
      • Each Power Automate Unattended RPA add-on will give you 5,000 AI Builder credits

    • And each purchased AI Builder add-on will give you 1,000,000 AI Builder credits

    • We also have a 30 day AI Builder trial so you can try out the possibilities of AI Builder. If you need more time beyond 30 days, the trial can be renewed until you are ready to user AI Builder in a production usage.

You can find the current pricing for your region by navigating to the Power Apps pricing page or Power Automate pricing page

For large volumes you might be eligible for discounts. If you have an assigned Microsoft sales representative, feel free to discus your needs with them, or you can also have a sales representative contact you by selecting Contact us on the AI Builder page.

I hope one of these options fits your needs to move forward with your AI Builder solution. 🙂

Where do I find out how many credits one Text Recognition call consumes?

    Hi,
You can find it in the Power Platform Licensing guide (in the AI Builder Add-on section) https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=2085130

You can also check out the new AI Builder activity page Activity monitoring (preview) | Microsoft Learn
    Hope that helps !

The jump from 5,500 to 1,000,000 credits, with nothing in between, seems crazy.  Surely, there can be a Pay as You Go option?  So frustrated!

    @PaulMatha @JamesHinton @jk_one @mobilismexico @JoeF-MSFT

So I built this template that processes any document just using the less expensive image recognition AI Builder service & GPT.

It seems much less expensive with a much lower barrier to entry only requiring a premium Power Automate license with 5000 AI Builder credits per month & some on-going LLM / GPT costs…

    https://powerusers.microsoft.com/t5/Power-Automate-Cookbook/Extract-Data-From-PDFs-and-Images-With-GPT/td-p/2201345/page/4

If I’m looking at this right, this method should cost

    Image recognition +.0017

    GPT prompt & output +.007

    Flow actions +.00375

So about $ .013 per page.

Less expensive than any of the other microsoft document/receipt/invoice processing options. And several of those take about 30 seconds to run.
And the 5000 AI Builder credits that come with the now $15 premium Power Automate license is enough for 1500 Image recognition pages. So you could probably process 500-750 documents per month with just 1 premium Power Automate license.

So it seems this method is faster, less expensive, easier to adjust, & requires less set-up than other standard AI builder set-ups.

Once the GPT actions are in general availability, I don’t know why I’d use any of the other services. 🤷‍

You really are a Super User!  Your solution is so useful and well-articulated. Thank you!

One thing to note with the Create text with GPT Json response is that the number of tokens is limited.  This means that you may receive a "finish_Reason": "length" message if you exceed the max tokens.  In my case this was 3947 tokens which did not take me passed the first page of a bank statement. I'm not exactly sure how to overcome this limitation.
