Can't uninstall or install PAD

I went to upgrade PAD last week per the prompt during app start up.

However, it got stuck at about 70%. I clicked the Cancel button, that too hung and I had to eventually force stop it via task manager.

Tried several retries after rebooting, etc. to no avail.

So then thought I'd just uninstall, reboot, then reinstall. Again, it got stuck part way during the uninstall process and I had to force stop the process.

So I'm stuck. I can run the current version 2.38.176.23294, but it keeps prompting me to update, which I can't.

In the event log, I do see this:

Product: Power Automate for desktop -- Error 1920. Service 'Power Automate log shipper service' (UIFlowLogShipper) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services.

I see this service is stuck in a Starting status.

Any advice on performing a clean uninstall so I can then reinstall the latest?

I have the same question (0)

Download the latest installer from the web: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-automate/desktop-flows/install#install-power-automate-using-the-msi-installer

Then stop the Power Automate services via the Services app (Start > Services, or Run > Services.msc). Manually stop all of them. If any of them are stuck in "Starting", then reboot your machine, or terminate the process via Task Manager.

Then install Power Automate Desktop via the installer you downloaded. The services need to be stopped to be able to uninstall the previous version and install the latest version.

It happens sometimes that this part fails and then it gets stuck on the installation. It's not stuck forever - if you had waited a bit more (somewhat up to 5-10 minutes), it would stop itself, but not succeed and simply tell you the installation failed. Terminating the app mid-way through the installation is never a good idea.

Thanks for your reply @Agnius , however this solution is not working.

I actually did do this (stopping the services first and I set them to disabled and restarted, then initiate install) as per another post on the subject.

I also did wait for over an hour the first time (went to lunch to give it time), before I used the Cancel feature...then also waited about 30 min for that to finish to no avail before having to cancel via Task Manager.

I've tried this again this morning to no avail. I've been waiting about 30 min. The process has provided no updates for approx 30 minutes. Started the install at 9:10am.

Event Viewer shows (and this is the only event for MsiInstaller):

The process Id 22736 is listed, but 0% cpu being used:

Okay, this is different from anything I have experienced on various client machines. I suggest you report this to MS support.

I am experiencing a similar issue where the installation failes in the upgrade scenario.
From the EventLog you can see the Error 'Product: Power Automate for desktop -- Error 1920. Service 'Power Automate service' (UIFlowService) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services.'

I run into this issue using 2312 and 2401. Nothing has changed in regards to the permissions.
The package is installed by the Configuration Manager service and I can even see the UIFlowService in the local security policy having the 'Logon as service' permission.

All steps to work around this issue result in the same error and any further installations fail.

I have opened a support case at Microsoft regarding this issue.

I'll let you know if we can figure it out.

    Cheers

    Simon
