How to force a gallery to update on opening (lag showing empty gallery on opening until user clicks)

Howdy,

I have a Canvas App screen where two child galleries are dependent upon fields in a parent gallery.

The problem is that the child galleries do not update with data until a user clicks on the screen.

I tried to create a collection so the data didn't need to be fetched every time and it didnt make a difference to the lag load.

It doesnt look like forcing a fake mouse click is possible and i tried to force a gallery refresh in OnVisible without luck

    Hi @leanneypants,

I assume that the gallery refresh in OnVisible did nothing. That's a shame, I would expect that to work.

What happens if you use a timer to perform the gallery refresh after, say, 1 second?

It's not an elegant solution but would be interesting to see what the result is.

    Hi @leanneypants

What do you refresh OnVisible? If you'd Refresh() the datasource(s) of the child galleries I'd also expect that to work. Do you have a Default item for your ParentGallery? If the child galleries filters depend on ParentGallery.Selected this might be an issue.

You could then also try to Reset(ChildGallery1);Reset(ChildGallery2)  onSelect of ParentGallery.

OOOOH thank you for helping me to figure out what was happening.  I looked up Default items and found more info here https://powerusers.microsoft.com/t5/Building-Power-Apps/Gallery-Default-Selected-Item/td-p/490256

My parent gallery (and all of them actually) were set up like this:

and i added a matching Lookup to the Default.  (I have edited this post - I previously used just the data source without a filter in Items but it kept reverting back to the first entry as I edited things which kept confusing me haha).

    AND IT FIXED EVERYTHING!!!

I had been messing around with the Refresh galleries on Visible, and Refresh galleries on auto-timer, but it would only work with a Timer on the second time I accessed the item because it couldn't return the data properly unless it knew the variable of the parent gallery.
