🆘 Unable to Add Variables in Power Automate – Is This a Region-Specific or Global Issue?

Hi everyone,

For the last 2 days, I’ve been facing a strange issue in Power Automate Cloud Flows, and I’d like to know if anyone else is experiencing the same or if it’s something specific to me.

🔥 Issue Details:

I am unable to add any variables in my flows.

Whether it’s:

  • A new flow,
  • An existing flow without variables, or
  • Trying to use “Initialize variable” or “Set variable”,
  • the option is either unresponsive or completely missing.
  • I’ve already tried:

    ✅ Restarting browser

    ✅ Clearing cache & cookies

    ✅ Incognito/private windows

    ✅ Switching browsers (Chrome, Edge)

    ✅ Restarting my computer

    ✅ Testing on another machine

Nothing has worked so far.

⚠️ My Question:

  • Is this a known issue with Power Automate after a recent update?
  • Is this a region-specific problem (I’m accessing Power Automate from Pakistan) or is it happening worldwide?
  • Are there any workarounds to initialize and use variables in flows right now?

🙏 Request:

If you’re able to test on your end, could you please confirm whether adding variables is working for you or not?

Thanks in advance!

    Hi,

    Quick Checklist Recap

Here’s the fastest order of steps I recommend:

    1️⃣ Try classic designer.

    2️⃣ Disable experimental features.

    3️⃣ Try a different environment.

    4️⃣ Check M365 Service Health.

5️⃣ If urgent, do partial logic in PAD.

6️⃣ Open a support ticket if still unresolved.

     1. Use the “Try classic designer” mode

This is the #1 workaround that usually fixes it immediately.

In the top-right corner of the flow editor, click the “…” menu (or the gear icon).

Look for “Switch to classic designer” or “Try classic experience”.

Open the flow again, and test adding variables.

Many users have reported this fully restores variable actions.

     2. Disable Experimental Features

Sometimes the new “experimental features” cause this issue.

     Go to Power Automate portal.

Click the gear icon > View all Power Automate settings.

     Disable Experimental Features (toggle OFF).

Save, refresh your browser, re-open the flow.

This often clears the problem immediately.

     3. Use Another Environment / Region

If you have access to multiple environments:

Try creating a flow in another environment (e.g., Default, Sandbox).

Sometimes the issue is tied to a region-specific deployment.

     4. Use Power Automate Desktop

If urgent, and you must create flows now:

Use Power Automate Desktop instead of Cloud Flows.

Or create as much logic as possible in Desktop, then later integrate.

     5. Check Known Issues / Service Health

Check Microsoft 365 Admin Center > Health > Service Health:

     Look for any advisories about:

Power Automate - Flow designer issues

    Power Automate - Missing actions

Also, check the official Power Automate Known Issues page:

    https://learn.microsoft.com/power-automate/known-issues

     6. Contact Microsoft Support

If none of the above work:

Open a support ticket via your M365 Admin Center (or via your reseller partner).

    Be sure to include:

    • Screenshot showing variable action missing.

    • Which environment you are in.

    • Which region your tenant is in.

    • Browser version(s) tried.

If I have answered your question, please mark it as the preferred solution ✅ . If you like my response, please give it a Thumbs Up 👍.
    Regards,
    Riyaz

    Hi Riyaz_riz11,

Thank you for the detailed checklist and suggestions. I’ve already tried all the steps you mentioned:

✅ I switched to the classic designer, but unfortunately, it didn’t resolve the issue.

✅ I disabled experimental features and refreshed the browser—still no luck.

✅ I also tested in multiple environments, but the problem persists across all of them.

At this stage, moving to Power Automate Desktop isn’t an option for me because my flow relies on a trained AI model where I need to select various fields dynamically.

I have also raised a support ticket with Microsoft again and am currently waiting for their reply. If there’s anything specific you think I should try again from the options above, please let me know.

    Thanks again,

    Muhammad Meelad Sultan
