Modern Tablist Sorting in Alphabetical Order All of a sudden

Hello,

I'm experiencing an issue with the TabList in the App Formula property. Whenever I publish a new app, the menu items sort alphabetically by default. This behavior disrupts the intended order of my menu.

I hope Microsoft addresses this soon or that someone in the community finds a solution that doesn't involve rolling back to a previous version.

For now, I am numbering my items to maintain the correct order. However, I'm also forced to use alphabetical characters to prevent the number 10 from appearing in the second position, which looks unprofessional.

Any suggestions on how to resolve this would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

    Greetings Kathy_Sea!

Edit: My answer is assuming that there's a bug which causes the items to sort, bear in mind that if you get the table from a specific place, that place might be sorting the results beforehand causing this. If you use a static table such as this one ["All", "Submitted", "Accepted", "Rejected"], and it still auto-sorts itself, then it is indeed a malfcuntion as far as I'm concerned.

Well, modern controls are still kind of wonky . . . While they are certainly a great addition, most of them still requiere some more work to be as dynamic as classic controls. I myself don't use modern controls for my current applications because they're not as customizable, at least to my knowledge . . .

I would suggest you to use a gallery as a tab control. There are hundreds of videos on how to use galleries as side menus and things like that. . .
Here's a video of youtuber and Power Platform developer Tolu Victor on how to make a compact side menu . . . use it as a reference to make your makeshift tab list How to create a Modern Compact Side Menu in PowerApps.

Hopefully this helps you out, if so, feel free to mark this reply as an answer, otherwise feel free to reply for further help!

Another user recently posted something about the tab control as well. When I tested it out using their code, I didn't have the same issue that they did. I recommended that they try replicating it in a fresh app, recreating the control, copy-pasting the control or their code, changing the authoring version, etc.

Regarding your specific issue of a correct order - are you using any sort of ID numbering system in your table? Below is some testing I did with this control and the results from it:

    1. The first tab control is using a SharePoint list and I attempted to sort it by ID, which didn't work.
    2. The second tab control I used a custom table with records in a non-alphabetical order, and it displayed in that order.
    3. The third tab control I used a custom table with IDs and sorted it by said ID, which worked as it should.
    4. Finally, the fourth tab control I used the same SharePoint list as in the first example but threw it into a collection and then sorted it, which worked.

Hopefully this helps you figure out how to resolve your issue, or someone else who comes along, if not also potentially a Microsoft employee who finds this and can shed some light on why it reacts differently to tables of varying "types," so to say.

To support the question here is a visual of how I'm using the App - > Formula -> Menu, this worked perfectly until I republished on Monday.  I have also removed the Emojis and this had no effect.  This first menu happens to be in alphabetical on the items shown, but I have many such menus in this application.  I have numbered them until I can find a better fix.

Sorry if I'm misunderstanding. In your screenshot, are they not appearing in the correct order unless you have them numbered as such? I entered in your code almost exactly, without the numbers, and had no issue with them displaying in the order in which they are written:

I even published the app and checked it, still in the correct order as written without any numbering. Here is my authoring version in case it has something to do with that:

Let me know if I'm mistaken in something about your post, or what order these menus should be in so I can try to replicate it.

    Hello Ryan B,

In this specific sample they just happen to be in alpha order Home or the Emoji House comes before LCL or Ship.  Here's an example from another screen. This is a result if I remove the first 4 numbers.  Home will drop to the bottom with the others out of order.

    Hi there Kathy_Sea!

Yeah I replicated what you had, and it does indeed automatically sort, doesn't matter if you put the table directly on the tab control, or on formulas or even on a collection . . . I'm not sure why this happens, but on my first reply I posted a workaround, basically doing a makeshift tablist using a gallery . . .

    Hello,

I am facing the same error. I have been using the Modern Control Tablist for months for a project and the order has always been correct.
Since yesterday, the order of the tablist has automatically changed to alphabetical order, which cannot be changed using the sort function.
Can I assume that this is a bug or is there a workaround with the modern-control tablist?
    Thanks

    Hey kathy

This is another example of buggy modern controls. Many of them still in preview they can bug around and cause issues in many places.

I (and many others, even Microsoft themself) wont suggest using modern controls in productive apps until they are finally released.

Stick to the classic ones and wait till the modern are out of preview.

I have exactly the same issue. It happened only today. I was looking for information on this and apparently, this has only been taking effect since this morning. Hoping for a fix soon. I am contacting MS support since this is getting critical. I'll let you guys know if anything comes up.

Has anyone tried to change their authoring version to the one I posted below? I agree that it probably is a recent bug of some sort but given my testing below I was able to get it to work with that version. You can change your authoring version for the time being as a workaround until Microsoft implements a fix.
