How to convert a text/string from MS Forms to a Person column in SP using PowerAutomate

Hello,

I am trying to create a Request that asks for people who would be Stakeholders or approvers of a project using MS Forms. I have been able to create the Automation to take the responses and create those items into Sharepoint.  I wish that Forms would have the Person option, but instead, I am using a text string for the submitter to enter those stakeholders' or approvers' names and those populate into SP.

Is there a way, using PowerAutomate, where the text/string can be converted to a Person and then copied into the Sharepoint list, in a Person Column?  I am very new at using PowerAutomate, but if someone has a deeper understanding of this request, I would be so appreciative.

PERHAPS, you have a better idea to solve the problem that I am facing with a different solution. I'd love to hear that too.

Thank you so much for your help.

    Hi there,

    Yes, you can do this. I'd recommend, though, that you use email address for your requested text string. More likely that they will take care to enter it correctly, and won't add in nick names or middle initials, etc.

    If you get the email address, you can just put that dynamic content directly into the Claims field (for creating the SharePoint item) preceded with i:0#.f|membership|

    If that's not an option and you have to ask for the name, you can use "Search for Users", get the first email that it returns, and then proceed on. But that's a tricky path since you can't always tell how a user will enter a name.

    Your other OTHER option would be to forego the Microsoft Form (or, to make a choice and type in every possible name.. but if that's more than 25, I wouldn't bother..) and instead modify a SharePoint form or something like that.

    Hi.

    I am receiving an error after I run this flow.

    • I have created a SP person column.
    • I have asked in the MS FORM for the EMAIL(s) or the person who will be stakeholders. (in my first test, I am using only one person)
    • I have mapped everything in PowerAutomate from the MS Form to the Sharepoint List.
    • When asking for the Main POC Email, the form maps to a MainPOCEmail, where the inputs that looks like this...
      • [
          {
            "Claims": "i:0#.f|membership|myname@domain.com"
          }
        ]
    • The error I receive is - The specified user i:0#.f|membership|myname@domain.com could not be found.

    I haven't a clue where to begin.  I am a newbie and trying to figure this out on my own and I apologize if I missed the answer somewhere in the community.

    THANK YOU FOR YOU HELP!!
