Seeking Guidance on Providing Custom Group Access to Data Verse Table

Hey community members,

I'm currently working on a project and need guidance on how to grant access to a custom data verse table for specific user groups. I want to implement custom group-based permissions to control access levels.

Any insights on best practices, tools, or step-by-step approaches for achieving this would be highly appreciated. Feel free to share your experiences or point me to relevant resources.

Thanks in advance!

    Greetings,

When it comes to group based permissions there are a couple of options depending on how users of this group will be accessing the Dataverse table, however, there are two main tools offered by Power Platform to accomplish this.

    • Team based permissions.
      • You could create a custom team in the environment and tie that team to an Azure AD Security Group or Office 365 Group. You can then assign a security role to this team which will be inherited by all members of the group. The benefits of this approach is that users are automatically added and removed from these teams as the Office 365 Groups/Azure Security Groups are changed.
      • The creation of teams does not have to be limited to Azure Security Groups or Office 365 Groups, you could also create a custom team and manually assign users to said team.
      • Here a helpful resource on setting up teams. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-platform/admin/manage-teams
    • Table Permissions
      • If there is not a security role that already accounts for the permissions you want to assign to users you could also create a custom security role. With this role you can grant users permissions to the following actions on the table.
      • There are two big questions to ask when it comes to security roles.
