How to create a Microsoft Teams connection using an Application User

Hello,

In order to account for the deprecation of Teams Office365 connectors announced by Microsoft, we need to migrate to Power Automate workflows to send our Azure alerts to our ChatOps channel in teams.

However, when creating such a flow the messages are posted using my user. When I try to create a new Microsoft Teams connection there is no option to select my Application User that I created in my Power Automate environment. I'm prompted to log in as a user, but I don't have any credentials of the service principal I created to run my flow. I want to change this so that the Microsoft Teams connection used by the flow is owned by my Application User that owns and runs the flow. Is this possible? If not, what can I do to run my Microsoft teams connection using a system account?

Thanks,
Mathias

    Hi,

If I understand correctly, you can use the Post message action and click on the "..." in the settings and change the connection string to your service account.

Then post messages as Flow bot, post in Chat with Flow bot, shown below.

    Thanks for the reply.

To clarify, I need to use the "Post card in a chat or channel", to send an adaptive card to our ChatOps channel.

When you say "change connection string", do you mean change the connection reference used? If yes, then that doesn't seem to be an option as I must then create a new connection which requires user credentials.

I'm just trying to understand if I need to allocate a system account with an o365 license with access rights for teams to establish such as connection reference of if there is some way to create one that is run using the power automate service account.

    Thanks,
    Mathias

I have the same question. As far as I can tell, the MIcrosoft Teams connector does not allow for connection using a service principal. However, it appears that you can use the HTTP with Microsoft Entra connector to connect to Microsoft Graph. I'm still trying to understand the details as I've never done this kind of thing before but hopefully puts you on the right track.
