Manually updating the Sign-Off column

I was wondering if I could manually update the sign-off column somehow? For example, I sent a document for approval, approver viewed document in excel online, didnt close it and approved the document. I recieved the following email below.

User signed off on your item. Note that we were not able to update the column in SharePoint because the file was locked by a user.

When the approver closed the file, the sign off column didn't update and stayed on Pending. Only way to change that status to approved is to resend the the approval and the the approver needs to make sure to close the document before approving.

    Hi @RogerFLOW,

Yes, as you said, the only way is to resend the the approval and the the approver needs to make sure to close the document before approving.

Since if the approver viewed document in excel online, didnt close it and approved the document, the update action in your flow would run failed to update the column beacase the file is locked by the approver.

And there is no any way to manually update the sign-off column.

    Best regards,

    Alice

Manually updating the column IS possible. i.e. directly from the details pane in SharePoint, I can select the item and update the [sign-off status] column to any text string I like.

I've done some testing on this Flow myself and I'm getting the same result as the original poster.

I suspect that anyone who has replied with suggested solutions for this has not themselves tested this Flow.

If someone could demonstrate this Flow experience end to end and show where the [sign off status] gets updated automatically to "Approved" , I'd love to see it.
