Automatically look up value

I'm trying to build a flow with Look up column. I have three columns but I would like to make it two and eliminate the Raw_TimeZone. Below are the steps I'm trying to do:

  1. Create table from Excel file
  2. Copy to SharePoint list (Time)
  3. The Raw_TimeZone data from the Excel file should be in the Lookup_TZ in order for the Lookup_TZ: Name of Time Zone work properly.

What happens is I had to manually select from the Lookup_TZ before the other column work. I also tried doing it in the flow but it doesn't accept the custom value I'm trying to enter.

Please help.

    Hi @biancadevera ,

Could you please share more details about your scenario? Is that Lookup_TZ: Name of Time Zone column an associated LookUp column, which was created by selecting the additional column when creating the LookUp column?

If so, this is the reason why it doesn't accept custom values in the flow. Please create a standalone LookUp column so you can manually set values in it.

    Best regards,

    Re: Automatically look up value

    Hi @v-jefferni

I tried creating a standalone LookUp column to no avail. Here's my scenario:

    • In my Excel file, there's a column I need to look up from
    • I created a SP list with the data from my Excel file and lookup value. For example, in my Excel file, it shows Hongkong. The equivalent value of that in my SP list is China Standard Time.

I also tried the Filter query in Get Items to do look up but I realized, if I have several values in my Excel file (500) and the look up is also around 500, I'll have 500 runs in one flow. I think it would be easier if the lookup is already sorted out in the SharePoint.

    Please help.

    Re: Automatically look up value

    Hi @biancadevera ,

Sorry but I still cannot understand your scenario. How many columns are there in Excel table? What are they? Is there another list with data all populated using this Excel table? SharePoint list cannot populate a LookUp column using Excel data directly, you need to get the item ID from another list and use it in your flow.

    Hi @v-jefferni

Thanks for this link. I’ll look into this one.

I found something similar to my concern here. Aside from doing lookup in SharePoint, I would also want to explore this option. The challenge is I want to do a vlookup via run script on a different file within the same folder in OneDrive. However, I had issues with external connections. I need to click Enable Content every time for it to work. Thoughts?
