Why do cards exist in Power Apps forms?

Can someone explain why a card is needed in an edit form?

It just adds to the complexity of setting up compact forms like in infopath.

I read the article from here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powerapps/maker/canvas-apps/working-with-cards

It seems cumbersome to have: screen>form>card>field.

When customizing the UI of a field (adjust width, color, text size, etc) it's very annoying to do it for each field/card.

Cards are simply a grouping that keep related controls together. Each of the controls uses properties of the card so its efficient to store them in one and reference the Parent card. It also makes it quicker to do layouts since you can change the X & Y properties quickly.

You don't have to change cards and controls one-by-one. Check out these GIFS and it will show you what I mean.

If you plan on using SubmitForm to submit your form, then using a standard form (and the cards that come with it) makes it easier.

That being said, if you plan to use Patch to submit your data, you can easily create your own custom form with your own controls (which will act like datacards). You can still use a standard form and Patch but I just wanted to throw it out there that these options do exist.

To recreate what I currently have in InfoPath, I'd have to add around 7 forms with around 10 fields each on one screen.
The reason for this is because my infopath form has multiple sections in the same screen that are all linked to the same list. It's just a nice way to layout all fields and organize them.

The standard form won't cut it.
When I add an "edit form" to the screen, it adds automatically a card for each field. I then manually remove and leave only the fields (with their cards) that I need for that section/form.
Yes, I think I'll have to use Patch to submit all forms into one single record
