AI Builder Licence

Looking for a little clarity on licence costs for AI Builder

I see that 1 AI builder add-on gives you 1 million AI Builder credits.

1 Add on is $500/month

BUT if i was to go into the AI pricing document and put in that I processed 2,000 forms I would need 2 AI builder Add-ons

My understanding is that a builder credit would be equal to one page of a document so I don't understand why it would require 2 AI builder Add-ons for 2000 forms which i'm assuming are 1 sheet each

Also if you have certain months that you know you won't have any forms being processed are you able to turn off the AI builder licence for that month?

    Hi,

I guess you have used https://flow.microsoft.com/ai-builder-calculator/

We take a small buffer in the estimate to ensure you are not running out of credits.

So in your case, you should be good with 1 addon.

Each scenario burns credits in a different way.

This is due to the processing power required, for instance extracting sentiment in a text is way cheaper than processing a document. This is why you can perform more Sentiment Analysis on texts with 1 addon than extracting data from documents.

AI Builder has a subscription based license model.

Credits are reset every month and addons billed every month as well.

You should contact a sales presentative to investigate if you can put in place some exception mechanism.

Adding to this...  take a look at the Power Platform Licensing guide as well.
    https://www.microsoft.com/content/dam/microsoft/final/en-us/microsoft-brand/documents/Power-Platform-Licensing-Guide-February-2025.pdf?msockid=3370269d5a636beb1f8d33aa5b2c6ad4

Each Power Apps and Power Automate license adds to a pool of AI Builder credits that can be allocated to one or more environments.  They don't have be used by the licensed user.  Each Power Apps license gets you 500 credits pre month and a Power Automate license gets you 5000 per month- you may already have enough credits.
It depends on what you are doing with the document- it could be as many as 100 credits per page.

Daniel Christian has a great breakdown of AI Builder licenses, credits to tokens, and monitoring/allocation.

If you have a Power Automate developer on your team & want something less expensive you could process 2000 pages/month with an OCR & GPT prompt set-up & it would only take like 2 $15 per month power automate per user licenses.
