Is it possible to create a PowerApp that is linked to Excel wher the table created for the App contains calculations that are referenced to Excel spreadsheets.

If the spreadsheets are updated, the table will automatically update the values which will, in turn, provide the PowerApp user with the updated records.

I have read that this function was being addressed by the team, but have not seen any updates as to whether this has been resolved

I have created a table in Excel which includes a calculated column. This seems to not work, the table data will not be loaded.
Hence I do not think there is any direct way of using Excel in the way you propose.

However there is a way to define your own functions (see this blog post)

If you know a little C# this is doable, you do not need to know anything else. I am experimenting at the moment, so if you tell me which particular function you need, I could give you clearer indications

You might also be interested in the AddColumns function. It can add a column with an expression of your choice. If you combine it with GroupBy, you can achieve a lot.

Mr Dang is right, so if you use an Excel table as a data source you can keep the calculated columns in PowerApps. And if there is a function that is not readily available (e.g. factorial of an integer) then you can try the Azure function approach described in the blog I link to above.
