Solution to zipping folders inside SharePoint

I'm trying to find a way to zip files up in SharePoint in a certain specified Archiving directory. The idea is that a folder is placed inside a document library (called Archive), this folder would contain files, and that folder is zipped inside that folder.

Is there any way to do this?

    Hi @Anonymous

    There is a template available in Power Automate for this. Please see below.

    You misunderstand, I don't want to unzip files, I want to zip them so they can be archived.

    Hi @Anonymous

    Yes I did.

    Currently there are no out of the box action steps to achieve this.

    There is a third party connector for this.

    @Jay-Encodian  could help you here.

    Thanks

    Do you think that azure functions could ever be a solution for an issue like this?

    Hi @Anonymous

    Earlier I was thinking the same. That might be another option.

    Yes from power automate you can invoke an Azure function via http action step.

    Thanks

    @abm thanks for the mention

    @Anonymous Yes, of course a custom solution is always an option but you have to consider the costs. You'll need access to Power Automate premium features for Azure actions or to create a custom connector, you have the cost of hosting and securing your own solution in the cloud, the cost of maintaining / supporting that solution, and the resource cost to build, test and release. Not also forgetting most third-party connectors provide an array of features which you may benefit from in future. Typically, a custom solution is not going to save money, but a good option where there simply isn't a COTS solution avaialble

    @Jay-Encodian

    Does it zip the files in place, or does it upload the files to another location, zip them, then send them back?

    Could you walk me through how the functions work in general?

    Hey @Anonymous

    The following article provides a good example of how the action works: https://blog.encodian.com/2019/10/new-flow-action-add-to-archive-zip/

    If you'd prefer we can arrange a 30 min session and I'll walk you through it, let me know

    Cheers Jay

    I may be interested in going through it, but my primary concern is from the standpoint of security, the files aren't uploaded to another location to be zipped are they?

    @Anonymous

    Yes, they would be, that's the same for any connector in Power Automate, you have to send the data to the connector for the data to be processed.

    This is worth a quick read - https://support.encodian.com/hc/en-gb/articles/360008866798-Data-Security-and-Data-Privacy

    Encodian process data for thousands of customers including those in the GCC region, and like most provides can provide dedicated endpoints hosted from your own Azure tenant, used by some customers with high security or compliance requirements
