Populate Dynamics 365 CE lookup field from Power Automate Desktop flow

Hi all,

I have an excel spreadsheet that has product records that I would like to use PAD to automatically create the Product records in D365 CE. One of the fields that we need to populate when a product is created is a lookup field called, "Unit Group". I want to populate the field with the record value called, "Default Unit". This value is pulled from the excel row for each specific product.

I tried to populate this field using the action called, "Populate text field on web page", but this doesn't work.

Is there any way to populate a Lookup field in D365 CE page from PAD?

I know this can be done using standard Power Automate or by just uploading the products from the excel file. I'm just trying to do a demo to show users how they can use PAD to simplify mundane tasks like creating product records in D365 CE.

Anyone have any idea if/how this can be done?

Thanks- Clayce

This is a text field that is a search bar, correct?  Do options appear as you type in text or do you have to put text in, and then press Enter for the options to appear?

Either way, I assume you know exactly what you are trying to look up, so I would get to the UI element (maybe select text field) and then send keys exactly what you want it to type in with {Enter} or {Enter}{Enter} at the end depending on if you need that extra Enter for it to search.

    thanks Michael,

It is a Lookup field to another entity record in D365 CE.

You can see below that when manually creating a product, we click on the Unit Group field and then start typing in the value "Default Unit"... it appears below and then we can pick it and it populated the lookup field with the value of the related entity record.

I can use the "populate text field on web page" to enter the value "Default Unit", but don't know what to do next to pick the actual related record that appears.

One other point... when creating the product manually and you enter the value "Default Unit"... if you hit enter or enter/enter... nothing happens, you have to either click on the value that appears below the text field or click on the advanced lookup and then click from the list of possible records that appear. This is the standard functionality for all lookup fields in D365 CE.

By the way, I did add steps to the point of clicking the "advanced lookup" icon. It then shows a list of possible values to choose from, "Default Unit" being one of them, I just don't know how you would then replicate manually choosing the right record.

    1) if you can click on the Search icon, then you have a point of reference.

    2) if you can get text into the field, then you can narrow it down, so there is only one possible selection, correct?

If you can do both of these, then I would:

    1) enter the text to narrow down the clickable options to just 1, then

    2) In your click on element window, you can input an offset under the Advanced menu:

If there is only one option to click on, then the offset (from the search icon to your click) should always be the same.

    Best of luck!
