Get Items/Length & Update Item Not working

(0) ShareShare

Hi, I completed the flow, but I am having some issues.

I am trying to make a power automate function, that once someone submits a test request it will automatically populate the test request number with the Customer-Request Date-Number of Tests Requested that date from that specific customer. (Hopefully this makes sense).

For one, my get items/compose (length) keeps outputting zero, even though there are items in the array.

Secondly, the update item is inputting information into the list, but it isn't just the output of the "Compose-Test Request Number" (as seen above).

Thanks in advance for your help. If you have any additional questions, please ask.

    Hi @CheddahChase

Can you share the part of the flow where you are getting the customer details? I believe you should only pass the Customer Value (assuming it is a lookup) in the compose. Passing the dynamic data Customer, will pass the entire JSON as in the screenshot you shared.

    Hope this Helps!

@CheddahChase Before you even add the Update Item action to your flow, you need to ensure the Compose action is outputting what you want it to output. If the Count of the Get Items action is returning Zero, you need to start there. The Filter Query needs to be looked at if it's not returning the results you are expecting.

Please upload a screenshot of the Get Items output so the Filter Query can be reviewed. Also, uploading a full screenshot of your flow would be helpful as well.

If you refer to the original post where I was already assisting, it looks like you might be missing a few Compose actions.

Hi @creativeopinion, the compose-count action is outputting zero. I just added the update item section to see if it would input into the list (since I've never done it before).

    Here is the overall flow...

The update item action is working, it is just outputting extra stuff.

Hopefully the whole flow helps. If you need specifics in the flow please let me know.

    Thanks for your help.

    Hi @yashag2255 ,

The customers and request date are inputted into the list initially. This is outputting a value of zero, even with multiple tests requests from the same customer and date being in the list.

Please let me know if you need anything else. Thanks for you help in advance!

@CheddahChase What do the outputs of the Compose action look like? As well as the Get Items Filter Query. You will need to expand it and take a screenshot please. For example...

Also, can you verify that you've used the correct internal column names for your columns? If you aren’t sure how to get this, please refer to this section of one of my YT tutorials.

@CheddahChase I see the issue now. I was unaware you were using a lookup column for the customer. This is why the Get Items Filter Query isn't working. You need to select the Customer Value dynamic content. This will return the Customer Name only.

However, what is the Customer column type used in list that you are looking up? Is it a lookup column? If so, you need to take a different approach.

    Thank you for the explanation.

Yes, the column is a lookup column with multiple other customers. Does this make it a lot more difficult to do?

@CheddahChase If it's a lookup column then you will need to us a Filter Array action. Look Up columns cannot be used in the Get Items Filter Query. It's not as straight-forward as using a Filter Query but it's doable.

Is there a way you can reduce the number of items returned by the Get Items action so you aren't needing to return the full list each time? Otherwise it will take longer for your flow to run as your list grows. Does that make sense? Ideally you want to return a smaller list of items then use a Filter Query on that (only if it's possible).

    @creativeopinion

Thanks for explaining everything. I guess the only two things the Get Items needs would be the Customer and the Request Date. All the other information is not very important for creating the test request number... hopefully I understand your question correctly. So, is there a way to only look at those two items in the entire list?

Thank you again for your thorough explanations.
