Expiration on sharelink with external user VS anonymous sharelink expiration

Hello, earlier today I advanced in my flow building but I believe I hit another wall : I can create an anonymous sharelink with an expiration and it works (as shown by Expiscornovus on this other thread) but I would like to set an expiration on a link that is allowing a specific external user.

Power automate allowed me to do it and I see there is an expiration on the link as shown here :

But when it actually expires, the link still works and the manage access windows shows this :

At first I thought it was because an option was disabled by the Sharepoint admin but after verification, it is not the reason. So here I am with this question : is it possible to create a sharelink for an external user and have an expiration on that link?

    Hi @Volt26,

    This is an interesting one.

The interface does not give you the option to set the expiration date on an individual link for People you choose type of sharing like it does on the Anonymous link (see screenshots below).

However, it does look like you are able to set that value. But I don't know if it is supported though 😁

Like you mentioned earlier, you might need to look into the guest access expiration policy setup instead for this requirement:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/manage-guest-expiration-for-a-site-25bee24f-42ad-4ee8-8402-4186eed74dea

    2. Anyone option with the expiry date

    3. Both type of access, with and without the expiry date.

Thank you for the reply. I helps me see whe whole picture.

Considering Microsoft doesn't support this feature, I'll try a different approach : I'll put all the created links in a Sharepoint list with an expiration date in a column. A Power Automate script will check daily all the rows and from there I'll try to remove the external link. I'm working on it right now. 🙂

Well, I searched a lot and came to the conclusion that it is impossible to delete such links because they are not anonymous. The limitations Microsoft creates are sometimes infuriating 😞
