Same item approval keeps triggering after response

Hi!

I need help with a flow that is driving me crazy.

What I am trying to do is that when a particular cell is completed in a specific list, first an email is sent to let everyone know about it, and then an approval starts.

After the approval, the item is modified in other columns and the process is closed.

that works, but it keeps repeating the approval for every change the flow makes in the item, which ends in a forever loop of approval requests in my email and teams.

Can someone help me to see what I am doing wrong?

You can use Trigger Conditions on items so that the flow won't run on changes to an item if they meet a certain condition. For example if you have a "Status" column in sharepoint, you can have a trigger condition on the Status column whenever it equals "Closed" then the flow won't run.

You'll have to set up your flow logic and sharepoint columns to work accordingly.

Thanks @wskinnermctc, can you give me an example? I already tried a few things like that but is still not working.

You need to think about your process and what you want to happen. Then create columns that will help the flow process.

Lets say you have a column "Status" in sharepoint with the choices "Started", "Processing", "Closed" so there are 3 options.

You can set up your flow with a Trigger Condition that is applied to the settings of the action "When an existing item is modified" so that it only runs when the Status is not equal to "Closed" on the item.

So if an item has the Status of "Closed", you could modify any of the fields at any time, and the flow will not trigger.

So like you said "After the approval, the item is modified in other columns and the process is closed." You need to set the Status column to "Closed" so that it won't trigger the flow.

That is a basic example, but you can expand different types of status and multiple trigger conditions to correspond to what you are doing. This will also work with the other steps you are using to "Check if field has changed".

So logically you need to think of how you can use these trigger conditions, status, column changes to determine how it works together.
