Dataverse table View creation

Hi Community,

I need to create dataverse table views in Power Automate so that I can use those views in Items property of a gallery in Canvas App. I didn’t find references on the internet. Could you please provide your inputs on this?

Use case: The admins of canvas application will create fiscal years. Several users are expected to select a fiscal year from a drop down and fill in the data against that created fiscal year. This will eventually create loads of data in a dataverse table over a period of time.
To handle the data load better, I plan to use views to filter the data when I display the entered data in canvas app.

Regards,
Koundinya

    Hi,

It should be possible to use Dataverse for this, specifically the Views table (SavedQuery):

Either use the Add new row action or the Dataverse Web API instead.

Below is a simplified example of the first option
It creates a basic system view for the Account table. You might want to look into the documentation which properties you need to set to properly configure this (with columns, sorting, filtering, etc.)

    Happy to help out 😁

    Hi..

    Thank you for the reply..

HTTP connector is not allowed in my organization due to DLP. I dont think I can use Dataverse Web API. So, I will have to use Add a new row action only to handle this.

When I added this action, I received below error for 'Entity Name' parameter.

So, I added logical name of a custom table in a compose action above this action and referred to it in 'Entity Name' parameter. Although it let me complete the step and publish the flow, the flow threw below error:

    Input:

    Error:

My query might be basic, but so is my knowledge in this topic. Request your patience and response.

    Thank you,
    Koundinya

I don't know your application design but a view could be minimally not excessively quicker.
I am presuming that you want to create views on a column called Fiscal Year.
If you index this column and use a Filter in Power Apps it would still execute on the server.

Could you share why you prefer not to create views directly from the Dataverse table and choose flow instead?

Just to double check, is your custom table enabled for activities?

And can you also share a screenshot of the table properties. So, we can see things like the schema name and logical name? This will help troubleshooting.

    Hi @Expiscornovus,

It was not enabled earlier. The shared link seems to be very specific to Dynamics 365. It is Canvas App in my case. But, I anyway enabled it now.
    Below is the required snapshot:

    Hi @w.p

App admin will create a new value based on the Fiscal year. The syntax can vary. I dont want to create views in Table manually every time they create a new value. Instead, I am looking at a flow to create a corresponding view when a new value is created by admin.

    Hi @ronaldwalcott,

Yes, that was the intention to create view to put filter on the value admin creates based on the Fiscal year.
I can try indexing the column but there is a limit on the number of indexes we can do in an environment, I believe. I can surely consider this approach.

    Thanks!

Apologies, I wasn't clear in my last post. I actually manually entered the Logical Name value as a custom value in the Entity Name field. I didn't select it from the dropdown.

When I expand the dropdown I get the same error message. That might be a bug in the action/connector.

Can you try and use a custom value as well?
