Hi,

Can someone help me understand licensing for Power Apps/Power Automate when Dataverse is used as the data source? What Power Apps/Power Automate plan is necessary for end-users in order to use the app/flow when Dataverse is in place?

Here are some additional concerns that complicates the licensing even more (at least for me):

1) If Power Apps app doesn't use any premium features does that make any difference in choosing the plan?

2) If the flow is using premium connectors (such as 'when an http request is received') and all connections inside the flow are linked to the owner of the flow, does it mean that only the owner needs a premium license for Power Automate? (flow is triggered automatically, not through Power Apps).

3) If the flow writes/reads data from Dataverse does that change anything with licensing?

4) What would you suggest as the plan if there is just one user for the flow, and many end-users for the app?

Any help is appreciated.

@sdedic Dataverse is a premium feature.
If you have just one app which is using Dataverse, then I suggest a Per App plan for Power Apps. All PowerAutomate flows using premium connectors that are running in context of your app are included in the Power Apps licensing, no additional license needed for Power Automate.
If the flow has nothing to do with your app, then additional license for Power Automate is required.

Thank you @PowerThomas,

When you say "If the flow has nothing to do with your app, then additional license for Power Automate is required", do you mean by that that the flow is triggered automatically and not through Power Apps (like instant flow)?

Power Apps app and Power Automate flow are connected in a way that both are using Dataverse to store in and read from Dataverse tables.

@sdedic the docs describe context as follows:
"Flows will need to run within the context of the app, which refers to using the same data sources for triggers or actions as the app."
So, in your case only a Power Apps plan would suffice.

Once again, thank you for the help @PowerThomas. May I ask you to take a look at this case cos it is similar to what I have and I am afraid I might go with wrong information to my team: https://powerusers.microsoft.com/t5/Power-Apps-Governance-and/Power-Automate-use-rights-with-a-Power-Apps-per-app-plan/td-p/1432089

In the case above the flow is 100% within the context of the app, however the user says the flow fails to run due to out-of-context issue which was confirmed to him from MS support.

One more question... If Microsoft/Office 365 license is already in place, will that be enough for all end-users to use the app without any additional plan, like you mentioned above - the Power Apps per App plan, and provide Power Apps per App plan only for the user who creates/runs the flow?
