Preserving text and input box outlines when viewing item post creation

Hi again everyone,

First, thanks to everyone who has been spending time helping me troubleshoot (and learn a lot about) PowerApps. 🙂

I'm making progress on a form I've been creating that is connected to a SPO list.

Everything is working fine, with one small exception. When I create an item using a PowerApps created form, and then edit the item that was created, the boxes that appeared around the input fields during creation basically dissapear.

Here's a screenshot of the form, pre-creation:

Here's a screenshot of the item upon editing:

Note: Please ignore the boxes that are covering potentially sensitive information. But if you look, you'll notice that the 1pt boxes that existed around the fields in the form disappear, when editing the item after it has been created.

Does anyone know how to get those boxes to appear around the fields, after the item has been saved?

Please let me know if I'm not making sense!

Thanks.

The form looks like it is in view mode. Can you actually click into the fields and change the values and save?

When I click the "Edit" button, then the fields (and boxes) appear:

As soon as I save though, it reverts to:

I'd have to imagine there's some way to make the boxes around the fields to remain. I've been experimenting with different things, but so far haven't been able to figure out a way.

I am sure that is possible and by design the outline of the input fields are there to let the user know that they can edit the field. If the fields look the same in Edit and View mode then that could be a little confusing for a user.

That's a valid point. So I basically need to come up with some way to delineate between the boxes/data card areas. Are there any kinds of common practices for this kind of thing that you're aware of?

It apeears the bord size doesn't apply in View mode either, so that isn't option. One thing you could try is is changing the color of the Data Cards. Alternate between white and light gray and that will visually define each Data Card/Field.

Your suggestion actually made me try adding a thin, dotted border surrounding each data card, but as soon as I put even a 1pt border in, the far right data card's position changed, and I can't get it snapped back in to its previous location. Any thoughts on why that would happen? I guess maybe because the border came into existence, it made the data card's size larger, and pushed the other data cards around? I'm trying to figure out a way to make things snap back to the proper grid.

When I added the border lines it did throw my layout off but I just had to toggle my layout columns from 2 to 1 back to 2 and it fixed the issue. Did you try the border lines in view mode? When I tested the border lines they would only show in Edit/New mode but not View mode.

Ah, thanks for that tip! I might give that a try.

Actually, what I just ended up going with for now is just filling in the backgrounds of all the data cards with a light blue color. That way, it looks more... form-like, in both view and edit modes.

So I think I'm good here! I do appreciate all of the advice and suggestions.
