Requirements for On-Premises Data Gateways

Hi there,

Not sure where else to post this, but I'm a newbie and could really use some help.

I've been hired by my firm in order to automate various business processes.

Im very new however to the concept of on-premises data gateways.

As I am proficient with Winautomation, I've been meaning to install Power Automate Desktop (as far as I know Winautomation has been integrated in to the suite).

In addition, I've applied to install an on-premises data gateway as this seems to be suggested here:

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/data-integration/gateway/service-gateway-install

However, our IT department just informed me that my laptop's resources might not be sufficient as they don't meet the recommended requirements.

Could you please let me know wether or not these specs are ok or if there are problems that could show up?

Here are the specifications of my company laptop:

4-core CPU
Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 PRO 3500U w/ Radeon Vega Mobile Gfx 2.10 GHz
Installed RAM: 16.0 GB
System Type: 64-Bit-OS, x64-based Processor

The following requirements are recommended, and most of them are not met:

An 8-core CPU
8 GB of memory
A 64-bit version of Windows Server 2012 R2 or later
Solid-state drive (SSD) storage for spooling

Also, everyone at our firm has the same equipment, so the processes would need to be able to run on the same type of laptop.
Would every machine that has flows run on have to install this on-premises data gateway on?

I'm pretty new with Power Automate and on-premises data gateways, so I would really appreciate some clarification.

Is an on-premises data gateway even needed for just automating otherwise manual processes?

Thanks in advance.

Best,

Daniel

    Hi @LyCo

It is suggested that you have at the recommended specs, but it is highly likely that you will not face any issue with the specs that you already have.

The on-premises data gateway is used to connect Power Automate Desktop to the Power Automate Portal.

Without an on-premises data gateway, you could only use PAD locally and trigger your flows manually.

You can find more info about PAD below:

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-automate/ui-flows/desktop/introduction

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-automate/ui-flows/setup

    I hope the above helps!
