Authenticating Sharepoint within an App for Mobile use?

Hi everyone,

I've encountered what appears to be a known bug within the PowerApps for Mobile platform, where Sharepoint file access is always treated anonymously rather than allowing the user to access files in Sharepoint sites they're a member of. Our tenancy doesn't allow the creation of anonymous links, for good security reasons, and we also don't want to host files on an external platform like YouTube for governance reasons.

I was wondering if anyone had found a mechanism within a PowerApp to create an authenticated connection to Sharepoint? Since we've moved a lot of our video content to ODSP from the Azure Stream service, we've lost the ability to view it in our Mobile apps, so we'd find it really helpful to be able to pull through files that we know a given user should have access to given their sharepoint credentials.

Just make sure that you are using your Office 365 work or school account when logging in to the Power Apps client on your mobile device and you will be able to access SharePoint normally. The problem occurs when users login to Power Apps on their mobile device using a microsoft or google account.

Thanks for your help Pstork1, but I'm afraid logging out and in again hasn't really changed anything. My files are still visible on the desktop version of my app but not on the mobile.

Do you mean the files or the contents of the files? If you are trying to open the files on the mobile device you'll need the Office app and that will need to be logged in using the Office 365 account.

Hi PStork, what I’m trying to do is pull a video from Sharepoint into the PowerApps player component at runtime. The component doesn’t seem to be able to use the credentials of the current Powerapp user to access the file from the video link or the Sharepoint connection established in the app, so we’ve tried a workaround using a Flow to get the file’s content from the Sharepoint connection. But this doesn’t work for larger videos, so we’re trying to see if there’s some way to push a sharepoint authentication into the Powerapps for Mobile app context, so the user can access these video files.

if there’s another way to feed the content through I’m all ears!

Hey PaulRoss25,

Having the same issues as well - it was one of those scenarios that wasn't caught immediately, because some browsers seem to cache access via SharePoint, and maintain that for users over time. Our internal testing team had no issues accessing videos via PowerApps stored on SP, even if they had SharePoint closed at the time in their browsers, but others using Edge (which is managed by our IT), isn't caching login data after browser session has ended... resulting in the user needing SharePoint open at least once in order for the videos to load through a SharePoint Library.

Kinda stuck on this as well, because from a Permissions standpoint, the files are accessible to any visitor.
