Read Excel Table Data from File Content (contentBytes) in Instant Cloud Flow

Hi everyone,

I’m working on an Instant Cloud Flow where the input parameter is a File content (Excel file).

When I manually trigger the flow, I want to upload an Excel file and then read the table data from that file.

At runtime, I have the following two dynamic values available:

  • contentBytes – the file content in base64 format

  • name – the file name (e.g., “Data.xlsx”)

Is it not possible to use it directly in Power Automate to read the table rows using the “List rows present in a table” action (without first manually storing the file in OneDrive or SharePoint).

Is there another option, or do I need to create the file and read its data temporarily?

Thanks in advance!

@asit00 Your assumption is correct - you need to write the content to a file. The actions for Excel rely on the file being processed by the SharePoint/Azure back end, Power Automate doesn't read the Excel content directly.

Once you write the content to a file, you can use the Excel actions with dynamic pointers to work with that dynamic file and, if you don't need it stored after, then use Power Automate to delete that file.

    Hey @asit00,

Sadly it is not possible to read the table rows directly since the content bytes are in Base64 as you mentioned yourself.

The easiest and most reliable way to do it is to save it temporarly into Onderive or Sharepoint and delte it afterwards again.
