I have an option set field present on the form which i need to set with some default value when my form gets loaded.
is there any easy way of doing it.

You can prepopulate field on the form using Entity Form Metadata (same as web Form Metadata - see docs). Just create Entity Form Metadata of type Attribute, select your optionset and scroll to the section Prepopulate Field where you need to provide a default value that you want.
