Outlook 365 Send an Email (V2) Not Working

Hello-

I am having an issue with emails being sent via Outlook 365 when choosing Send an email (V2).

The flow works fine but as you can see at the very end of the screenshot, after an item is created,

it is supposed to send an email to the specified recipient that has an outlook email address and

the email is never received. I have even added myself as a recipient (I also have an outlook email) and

I never receive it. The strange thing is that I used this same email send connector in another portion of my flow and it works.

Could the issue be that it is trying to send an email after "Create item #2?" Could this be bug related? It should be as simple as adding the email recipient to the To: column and it doesnt appear to work. The very last part of the flow has to send an email as because the reason for this is to send the tracking number to the shipper which is what the email notification does in the final stage

of the flow process.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

If yiur Get items #2 is usaing the get items action from a SharePOint list then it needs an apply to each after it. with the subsequent actions inside that apply to each.

Can you show us a screenshot of what a completed run looks like?

@RobElliott - thanks for the quick reply. The entire flow is doing what is required, the only issue I am having is that on the final leg of the flow, the email is not being triggered to be send to the recipient that is assigned. Would what you are taking about be the cause of the email not being sent?

Without seeing the exapnaded details of each of your actions it's difficult to say why it's not working.

@RobElliott @Pstork1  here is an expanded copy of a portion of the flow that is causing issues. The create item #2 section is working fine as it dumps the data into another sharepoint form which works fine. Its just the "created by email" portion that is not sending the intended recipient the email with tracking number  and actual cost as specified in the body of the email.

Is the Created By from the Create Item #2?  If it is then its probably a timing issue.  The problem is that the Created by doesn't get populated until after the system saves the item.  And I have seen instances where it doesn't register in a timely fashion.  There are three things you can try.

    1) Add a compose just before the send email and put Created By email in that compose.  Then use the compose value to address the email.  That will let you verify that the Created By is available after you create the item.

    2) Use the Modified By value from the Create Item #2.  At this point it will be the same as the Created By value, but does seem to populate faster.

    3) Use the Created by or Modified by from the trigger instead of the one form Create Item #2.  It should be the same person.

Sorry but I don't understand the logic of the flow. An item is created, presumably in the ship items list. You are then getting all the items from that same list but there's no apply to each so it can't loop through them. You are then creating a whole new item in that same list. Why are you not using the update item action? That would seem more logivcal to me. And you really need the apply to each after the get items if the flow is going to work. The email is probably not being sent because the flow doesn't know who to send it to. @Pstork1 might have a different view, but to me the logic of the flow is wrong (but fixable 🙂 !)

@RobElliott @Pstork1 Ill try one of the 3 suggestions made by Pstork1 because as I stated, there is more to the flow than what is posted and the flow in of itself works fine and is populating all required fields in SharePoint. The entire flow consists of 2 SharePoint lists.  In a nutshell when the user creates a ship ticket with shipping address, phone number, quantity, etc.............the shipper then modifies one of the columns in List1 adding the tracking number and estimated cost. Then the flow continues on to get the data and create another list in List2 where from there, it flows on to Payroll and they add the "actual cost" amount, when they modify the "actual cost" column in List2 then it triggers get items #2 creates the column shown in List2 along with the actual cost and supposedly sends the email. Its just the email that is not being sent which is the mail issue.

@Pstork1 #2 or #3 of your suggestion works either. I even tried to add my direct email address in the To: section and I still never received it. I am under the assumption that there is something wrong with the Send an email v2 connector. Any thoughts?

I use the Send an Email action almost daily and have seen no issues with it.

    1) Have you checked the Junk folder for the email?

    2) When you check after a run do you see a green check mark on the Send an email action saying that it ran successfully?

    3) I assume this is an internal email address you are using.  When you input your own email are you clicking on the double arrows above the To field to turn off the People Picker?

    4) Have you tried creating a shorter flow with just a manual trigger and a send an email to your email address to see if it works?
