SharePoint Knowledge Source Prompting (FederatedKnowledgeSearchOperation) in Teams & M365 Copilot

Environment:

  • Copilot Studio agent with SharePoint as the primary knowledge source

  • Published to: Microsoft Teams (1:1) and Microsoft 365 Copilot

  • Authentication mode: Authenticate with Microsoft (default)

  • All users are licensed with Microsoft 365 Copilot

  • Agent was functioning normally until approximately April 10, 2026 - no config changes were made by our team

Issue Description:

Our Copilot Studio agent, which uses SharePoint sites as its knowledge source, has suddenly started displaying the following authentication prompt to end users in both Microsoft Teams and the Microsoft 365 Copilot interface:

"Connect to continue — I'll use your credentials to connect and to get the information you're looking for."

  • SharePoint

  • This connection can: FederatedKnowledgeSearchOperation

  • [Allow] [Cancel]

  •

This prompt appears every time a user interacts with the agent and clicking "Allow" does not resolve the issue — the prompt continues to reappear in subsequent sessions or even within the same conversation.

What we've already tried:

  • ✅ Verified agent authentication is set to "Authenticate with Microsoft"

  • ✅ Confirmed all users have access to the SharePoint sites used as knowledge sources

  • ✅ Checked Connection Settings in Copilot Studio — connections appear as Connected

  • ✅ Removed and re-added the SharePoint knowledge source and republished

  • ✅ Verified no Power Platform DLP policies were added or changed

  • ✅ Checked for broken connections at https://make.powerautomate.com — none found

Has anyone else experienced this sudden regression with FederatedKnowledgeSearchOperation prompts appearing after a period of stable operation? Any guidance or workarounds would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you for raising this issue. This is a known problem that has recently impacted several Copilot Studio agents using SharePoint as a knowledge source.
We have raised an ICM with the engineering team, and they are actively investigating the issue. We will keep you informed as soon as we have any further updates. Thank you for your patience.

Has there been any movement on this ICM or any reasonable workarounds found since April?
The documentation is now a bit unclear around using inbuilt Microsoft auth or configuring a manual authentication method which in our estate precludes the use of Teams/365 as a channel for the agent.
