Copilot Studio automatically creates a new environment when selecting a team

Hello,

I am currently experiencing a behavior in Copilot Studio that I had not encountered before.

When I access the platform, I am required to select a team in order to work with or access an agent. However, as soon as I select a team, a new environment is automatically created and associated with that team.

I would like to understand whether this behavior is related to:

  • A recent Copilot Studio update.

  • A licensing or permissions change.

  • A specific configuration within my Microsoft tenant.

  • A new requirement for agent creation and management.

  •

Previously, I was able to access and work with agents without automatically creating a new environment when selecting a team.

Could you please confirm whether this is the expected behavior and, if so, provide any official documentation regarding this change?

Additionally, I would like to know:

  1. Is there a way to prevent the automatic creation of environments when selecting a team?

  2. Is it possible to delete the environments that have already been created automatically?

  3. If deletion is supported, what is the recommended process, and are there any dependencies or considerations that should be reviewed beforehand?

  4.

Additional Information:

  • Additionally, I am experiencing another issue that may be related to the same behavior.

After publishing and sharing the agent in Microsoft Teams, both I and the end users receive a "Bad Request" message ("Solicitud incorrecta") when attempting to access the agent from Teams.

    The message displayed is simply:

    "Bad Request"

This issue occurs specifically with this agent. As a test, I created a new agent, published it, and shared it with the same users. The test agent can be accessed successfully without any issues, which suggests that the problem may be related to the original agent, its environment, or its configuration.

Could this error be related to the automatic environment creation that occurs when selecting a team in Copilot Studio? Are there any known issues, configuration requirements, or troubleshooting steps that I should review?

I would appreciate any guidance on how to identify the root cause of the "Bad Request" error and restore access to the affected agent in Microsoft Teams.

Thank you for your assistance. I look forward to your guidance and clarification on this behavior.

Are you logging into https://copilotstudio.microsoft.com/ using your work or school account?  Or a Microsoft Account?  The behavior you are describing is what happens when you use copilotstudio inside the Teams client.  That falls under licensing called Dataverse for Teams.  But if you login to regular copilot studio in a web browser with your work or school account it should drop you in the Power Platform default environment.  Depending on licensing you may have access to other environments as well.  But it shouldn't prompt for a Team unless you are operating in the teams client.  I just tested again and Copilot Studio works normally for me when I log in through a web browser outside of Teams.

    @ HI.

I am using a corporate Microsoft account provided by the company where I work.

The behavior I am describing is completely new. Previously, I was able to access Copilot Studio and work with my agents and environments without any issues. However, I am now required to select a Microsoft Teams team before I can access the platform.

Once I select a Teams team or group, Copilot Studio automatically creates a new environment with the same name as that team. This behavior is not only affecting me but also other colleagues who have access to our Development (DEV) and Production (PRD) environments.

Additionally, I have an agent located in a Development (DEV) environment, but that environment no longer appears in Copilot Studio. As a result, I am unable to access or manage the agent through the platform.

For this reason, I would like to understand whether this behavior is related to a recent Copilot Studio update, a licensing change, a tenant configuration, or a new requirement regarding the management of Teams, environments, and agents.

    Two things to check.

    1. Make sure you're accessing Copilot Studio via browser at https://copilotstudio.microsoft.com and not through the Teams client. When accessed from Teams, it uses Dataverse for Teams licensing and auto-creates Teams environments. That's likely why DEV/PRD aren't showing.

If you're already using the browser, your admin may have changed your security roles. You need Environment Maker in DEV/PRD to see them.

    2. For the Bad Request on the original agent: remove the Teams channel in Copilot Studio, wait 2 minutes, re-add it and republish. That resets the Teams registration. Users need to reinstall the app after.

    Best regards,

    Valantis

    hi

I am accessing Copilot Studio directly through the web. I will attach a screenshot showing how it asks me to select a team. Currently, when I enter Copilot Studio, that prompt no longer appears because I previously selected a team. What happened is that it seems to have created a kind of environment associated with that team name.

However, I need to delete this environment. Additionally, I’m unable to view the other environments (such as Dev or Prod), and I’m not sure where I should go to access them or where I need to log in to edit an agent.
