Parent and Child List - Competing ID Numbers

Hoping someone can help as this issue is driving me absolutely crazy!

I have List A with information which is in Team A. Team B needs to contribute information as well however I did not want Team B to have access to the full List A as it has many other teams information. I built Team Ba list called List B, which matches exactly with List A.

I then built 2 flows, one so that when List B adds something, it automatically populates it in List A and another so that when an item in List B is amended it automatically amends in List A. Yes I know there is a way to do this in one flow however I'm but a beginner at this and have taught myself everything via Google 🙂

The creation one is working fine. When something new is added in List B it assigns the ID number (1 for example) and then creates it in List A and assigns it a separate ID number for that list (44 for example as there is already alot on list A).

Now I have run into an issue.....

Unfortunately, when the modification flow is running, it is taking the List B ID number and overwriting the same ID number information in list A. When creating the flow, it is using the ID number as the Identifying Factor instead of the name. It wont let me not put the ID number and so now I am at a loss.

I have googled and tried to watch about 100 videos on this and I am not getting anywhere.

Apologies if this is a very beginners issue however as I have stated, I am self teaching via google to try to make some improvements to my teams.

Please help and be gentle 🙂

The ID number in a SharePoint list is managed by the system and cannot be changed in Power Automate.  In the Update Item action the ID is the Index used to identify which item in a list is to be updated.  In a scenario like yours where you are trying to link two lists together the key is to have a separate field in each list that references the ID from the other list.  So in List A there would be a column that has the ID from the same item in List B and in List B there would be a column that has the ID from list A. Those fields you will be able to change.
