Multi Level Conditional Approval Flow

Hi Everyone,

I am new to power automate. I created a flow thus:
Trigger: When an item is created or modified

Initialize Variable

Compose (to get Status)

Condition 1:
Submitted == Yes AND Status == Pending Approval AND EmailSentStatus == None

If True:

Send Email to Line Manager and Creator

Update Item (EmailSentStatus = LineManagerEmailSent)

- Delay for 5 seconds

Condition 2:
LineManagerApproval == Approved AND EmailSentStatus == LineManagerEmailSent

If True:

Send Email to HR Manager

The first condition works fine but as the line manager approves the mail to the HR manager does not trigger. If I remove the update action, the mail will go and the then trigger again the mail to the creator and to the line manager. This off course is duplication and can cause confusion.

I really need help on this to enable me close out a task.

The problem is with the logic of the flow.  After you get the status that sends it to the Yes side of Condition 1 there is nothing that has it wait for the Line Manager to Approve.  So the flow just finishes because the line manager hasn't approved yet. The next time it runs after the line manager has approved it then Condition 1 will go to the no side so you'll never reach the second Condition given your current logic.

Is there a particular reason why you aren't using the built-in Start and Wait for an Approval action?  That would pause the flow while waiting for each approval so the next stage could react after that approval is done.  Check this documentation.
