A question regarding saving a blank as a choice value to SharePoint

Hi all,

I am failing to find an issue to the following scenario:

1.  I select YES as an answer in the Power app's choice field and save the form to SharePoint;

2. On SharePoint and click to edit the same item and deselect the YES option in the choice field and leave it empty (no options selected);

3. I save the form again.

Result: after saving the form the choice field still retains the value YES and does not override it with blank.

However, if I choose NO option, it will be saved instead of YES. I wonder, why after deselecting the YES value and leave the field empty, Power app form still still saves the previously selected value?

Could someone please advice what settings should be changed? Happy to clarify any questions, if I left some mistakes..

Current fucntions of the choice field:
- Choice datacard: update = ProposalPreparation.Selected

- Datacardvalue field: DefaultSelectedItems = Parent.Default

    is it a yes no field? If so the value is always yes or no.

    If you want to be able to.clear it make sure it is a choices field

    Noted, thank you. I have the choice field with values YES and NO. In case users accidently clicks YES and then saved the form, I would like to be able to remove their choice and then leave the choice field blank..

    Add ”” as one of the choices. Then you can patch it to “”

    Hi@mantastg08876,

    Based on the issue that you mentioned, do you want to save empty value if deselecting the option?

    Could you please share more about this Choice column, is it has "Yes" as default value in your SP list?

    I have a test on my side which does save the empty value to the SP list.

    Please refer to the screenshot below and make changes to the APP settings-> Advanced Settings-> Enable : Formula Level Error Management,

    Annotation 2020-07-27 183224.png

    After that, Publish and Run your app and you should be able to save blank values for option lists items in SharePoint

    Best Regards,

    Qi

    thank you very much, this also solved my issue.

    Can you explain to me why checking this option resolves the issue of updating empty values? Is an empty value considered as a valuable error information?

    Why would you want a custom form (without changes yet) to not behave the same as the default form or edit in grid view!? It is insane that you have to turn on an experimental feature to get it to work the same way as lists work normally.
