Generative Answers using SharePoint - Allowed file types

Hi everyone

I've just started playing with Copilot Studio and have setup a simple bot.  One of the topics is setup to use the Create generative answers action, which is pointing at a SharePoint document library as its data source.  We've been testing this and it seems to work fine if Word documents are added to the document library as the bot picks up text from these and answers user questions.

However, if we use Excel spreadsheets it just returns a blank response each time.  If we upload the same Excel files to the Upload a document section in Generative AI Settings the Conversational boosting topic can see these and successfully answer questions based on the data in the Excel documents.

So I'm wondering are there different restrictions on the file types that can be accessed when used via SharePoint or should the Excel files be accessible as generative question data sources?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

Re: Generative Answers using SharePoint - Allowed file types

    Hello

Generative answers based on Sharepoint only support a limited number of file type:

    • SharePoint pages (.aspx pages aren't supported)
    • Word documents (docx)
    • PowerPoint documents (pptx)
    • PDF documents (pdf)

See documentation: Generative answers with Search and summarize - Microsoft Copilot Studio | Microsoft Learn

If you need to use xls document in your generative answer node you can upload the file directly in your copilot, it supports more file format:

    • Word (doc, docx)
    • Excel (xls, xlsx)
    • PowerPoint (ppt, pptx)
    • PDF (pdf)
    • Text (.txt, .md, .log)
    • HTML (html, htm)
    • CSV (csv)
    • XML (xml)
    • OpenDocument (odt, ods, odp)
    • EPUB (epub)
    • Rich Text Format (rtf)
    • Apple iWork (pages, key, numbers)
    • JSON (json)
    • YAML (yml, yaml)
    • LaTeX (tex)
