Asynchronous Approval - How to react on User action (approve, reject) under Action Items Menu in Flow?

Hi all,

I have build a simple invoice receipt process with Microsoft flow. Within my flow, I iterate over a bunch of invoices (stored in Microsoft Apps as Entity) via an "for each" loop and I create an approval request for every invoice with amount > X EUR. I do NOT use "Create approval and wait", but only "Create Approval". The approval request is then created and appears correctly in the Action Items of the respective user under Approvals. Now, I would like to react on the User action (clicking approve or reject). However, I do not know how to achieve that. I cannot find any information on this or other forums as how to react on user actions performed unter "Action Items" / "Create Approval" in the Microsoft Flow Menu.

Would anyone be so kind and provide a solution?

@PatrickWolf as you've used the Create an approval you also need to add the separate wait for approval action so that you can then get the approval details.

Hi Rob,

Thanks for your reply. But I want to implement an "asynchronous" approval. Thus, I would like to create all the approval requests within my for each loop. I do not want to wait for the user reaction before iterating to the next invoice / approval request. Thus, I am not able to use the "wait for approval" action within the loop. Or is my opinion wrong here? I imagined a solution where a separate flow exists which is triggered by the approve/reject action of the user within the Action Items Menu of Flow.

PatrickWolf, did you ever figure out how to wait for an approval without stopping the flow?
I am trying to put an request and wait for approval process into a PTO request flow, but I have a concurrency issue.
I'd like to try to find a way to limit the flow to 1 degree of paralellelism, but still request an approval, without the flow waiting for an approval before processesing the next item in the list. Seems similar to your request.

My thought was to create a second flow that looks for the result of the original approval, but I don't have any idea how to start a flow from the original approval request, plus then I'd not have the data from my Get-item sharepoint list request.

Would something like creating a child flow at the point of approval allow the parent flow to complete and start a second copy of the parent (assuming 1 degree of parallelism) while the child flow waits for the approval process to complete?
